Will Smith to Play a Superhero in (Mid-Life) Crisis
by Scott Weinberg | December 01, 2005
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Variety reports that mega-star Will Smith and director Jonathan Mostow will team up for "Tonight He Comes," an action flick about an aging superhero who must contend with an annoying identity crisis.

"Smith will play a disaffected and underappreciated superhero in a mid-life crisis. Akiva Goldsman and Michael Mann will produce with Smith and his Overbrook Entertainment partner, James Lassiter.

Mostow has just been signed to a rich holding deal while the budget process takes place.

The script languished until Goldsman set it up at Artisan with production head Richard Saperstein, simply because it was the "Da Vinci Code" scribe's favorite script. Mann became attached to direct, and when he instead opted to helmhelm "Miami Vice," Artisan put the pic in turnaround."

I think I saw this movie already. Except it was called "The Incredibles."

Pic should be titled 'Johnny-Come-Lately'

"disaffected and underappreciated superhero in a mid-life crisis"
Appears too similar to the plot of The Incredibles, a movie that won't be forgotten quick enough for this flick to seem original.

Why is it that everyone in Hollywood wants to be a superhero these days?
Even if it is one suffering from a midlife crisis they want to be a superhero!

I like the huge rush of superhero movies not based on any long standing classical characters found in the traditional superhero medium: comic books.

In other words, superheroes are big bucks right now and every damn screenwriter out there has made the main characters in their crappy scripts into superheroes in the hopes stupid producers will buy it. Damn you Hollywood. Damn you.

I think that the upcoming "Super-Ex" will already fill the quota of upcoming comedies based on superhero characters. I don't think we need another one, specially with a plot so close to "The incredibles".

When they make the porn version, they won't even have to change the title.

Looks like another Will Smith cash run. I thought these were only supposed to be in between his prestige movies. But given his last few movies (Hitch, I Robot, Bad Boys II), maybe *this* is supposed to be his prestige movie in between cash runs. I'm confused.

Well, I do not mind all the new super hero movies,. It gives me something to talk about and watch. The special FX are always eye candy.

Hey if I was Mr. Smith I would do this movie as well. $$$$$$$$$$ in the bank and you know everyone will still go see it, He is a brilliant business man.

Im just wondering when he is going to make the Fresh Prince movie!! ive been waiting over 15 years! ;) come on Will.. you can do it!

Also I want to mention "Will Smith for Prez 2008!" you can do it!
