Fincher Signs Up for "Torso" Tale
by Scott Weinberg | January 12, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
According to Variety, fan favorite David Fincher is about to sign on to direct "Torso" for Paramount, a project based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis & Marc Andreyko. The genre-centric Ehren Kruger will be penning the adaptation.

"David Fincher, who is currently directing "Zodiac" for Paramount and Warner Bros., will reteam with Par to helm "Torso." Bill Mechanic, Don Murphy, Todd McFarlane and Terry Fitzgerald are producing.

Based on the graphic novel of the same name penned by Brian Michael Bendis with illustrations by Marc Andreyko, the project will be adapted by scribe Ehren Kruger.

Story will center on real-life federal agent Eliot Ness -- made famous by "The Untouchables" -- after he closes the Al Capone case in Chicago and moves to Cleveland. There he makes a promise to help clean up the town until the city is scarred by a series of gruesome killings known as the "torso" murders.

Par is close to finalizing all deals on the project, and once those are complete, Kruger will begin penning the screenplay.

Fincher is currently behind the lens on "Zodiac," another real-life story involving a serial killer. That pic is based on Robert Graysmith's books about the Zodiac killer who committed a string of murders in San Francisco during the 1960s and 1970s."

Fincher, no doubt you're aware, is the guy who directed "Alien 3," "Seven," "The Game," "Fight Club," and "Panic Room." He also has "Benjamin Button" set up with Paramount.

A sequel???
Is this going to be a horror movie, or more like Road to Perdition?

I wonder if they're going to get Keven Costner to play the character of Eliot Ness.

I think it would be a nice come-back for Kevin Costner, who seems to have stumbled into a chick-flick phase. Not just any chick-flick phase, he seems to be limiting himself to movies that can be described as chick-flicks for chicks who haven't had a date in a long time and seem to have made their cat their best friend. I mean, you have on one hand chick-flicks that women drag their men to and we call those date-movies; and on the other hand, there are chick-flicks that single women rent on DVD so they can escape their life of lonliness and lose themselves for two hours in a reality that they wish was their own.

David Fincher directing a movie based on a graphic novel about gruesome killings? Seems appropriate.

"Zodiac" piques my interest more. Although "Dirty Harry" was kind of based on that, too.

Here's to hoping that Fincher will finally make something as good as "Seven" again.

Haha! That's rich! As opposed to "guy-flicks" that single men rent (ON DVD!) so they can escape their lives of lonliness and lose themselves for two hours in a reality they wish was their own? None of us know what that's like, I'm sure.

As for Fincher, I happen to think that Fight Club was one of the best films of the nineties. Come to think of it, all of his directorial work has been top-notch. So, I definitely don't see a need to worry about the worthiness of this particular project.

Todd McFarlane's involved so we all know the killer will end up being some kind of clown-demon with a motorcycle and glowing chains for arms that plays in a KISS cover band.

Doll- I mean, action figure available fourth quarter 2007!!!!
