Is Westworld Remake Finally Coming?
by Gareth J. Von Kallenbach | January 18, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Director Tarsem Singh, best known for doing R.E.M videos such as "Losing My Religion," has been tapped (according to IMDb) to to helm the update of the 1973 classic "Westworld."

The film, which was written and directed by Michael Crichton, depicts a theme park where all your fantasies can come true, thanks to an army of high-end robots. In short order, the dream becomes a nightmare when the robots go on a killing frenzy. The film, which was an inspiration for later works such as "The Terminator" and "Jurassic Park" (also a Crichton work), was a great late career triumph for veteran actor Yul Brynner.

Pre-Governors office, there were rumors that Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Bruce Willis all wanted in on the remake. One plan is for Sly and Arnie to play the James Brolin / Richard Benjamin characters with Willis playing the android. Due to the "Terminator" connection, Arnie thought it might be fun to be the one being stalked. This, of course, is likely to change as casting and politics continue to develop.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis

a bunch of washed-up, over-the-hill, action stars. i don't know how to feel about this.
chances are though we'll get joe piscapo, kurt russell and david hasselhoff. how about chuck norris as the robot? he'd just have to 'act' the same way as he has for 40 years.
wait, no, someone needs to be black....(i can't recall ANY racial diversity in the original) billy dee??? carl weathers???

I doubt we will see that cast. Sly could be primed for a huge year with Rocky Balboa and Rambo 4, but the others have other things to work on.

Why don't they simply spend the time and money to do a first rate clean up of the negative of the orginal West World and release that one instead and let those who haven't seen it understand why some movies just cannot be made better? Anything less would make anyone "Lose Their Religion."

I can't believe I had never heard of this movie, I am going to see if I can find it. On the remake, it may be pretty funny to watch these old, action stars make fun of themselves, although I like Dracus's idea, to just rerelease it, although they will as soon as a remake goes into production.

though i too want to bitch abt the film being remade, i won't. if it is being remade, at least a decent director has been picked.
