Michel Gondry’s “The Science of Sleep” has been acquired by Warner Independent Pictures for $6 million, becoming the second film to get picked up at the ongoing 2006 Sundance Film Festival.

The deal was announced January 23 on the fourth day of festivities in Park City, Utah. Written and directed by Gondry, whose “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” nabbed him a co-writing Oscar last year, “The Science of Sleep” is an introspective science fiction starring Gael Garcia Bernal as a man whose dreams threaten to take over his waking life. The pan-European cast also includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Alain Chabat, and Miou-Miou.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Independent reps sealed the distribution deal within 6 hours of its first screening Sunday night.

This year’s Sundance acquisitions race began Saturday, as Fox Searchlight bought the rights to “Little Miss Sunshine” for a whopping $10 million.

Michel Gondry is a god, and Bernal was awsome in Dot the I. I can hardly wait to see this, definitely one of my top ten films I'm looking forward to.
