Everyone's Favorite Pig Farmer Signs On for Spidey Work
Veteran character actor James Cromwell, perhaps best known for his Oscar-nominated role in 1996's "Babe" (or for "L.A. Confidential" or "The Green Mile" or shudder "The Longest Yard"), has signed on for a supporting role in Sam Raimi's low-budget indie flick "Spider-Man 3." Mr. Cromwell will be playing the father of Gwen Stacy, a girl who ... well, let's not spoil anything just yet.
Says The Hollywood Reporter: "James Cromwell is set to walk the beat in Columbia Pictures' "Spider-Man 3" as Captain Stacy, the father of Bryce Dallas Howard's character. Sam Raimi is directing the movie, which is scheduled to roll this month. ((SPOILER ALERT)) In the "Amazing Spider-Man" comic books, Stacy dies a heroic death as he saves a child during a battle between Spider-Man and another supervillain. Peter Parker love interest Gwen Stacy (Howard) ends up blaming Spider-Man for her father's death. Cromwell joins returning cast members Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco as well as Topher Grace, Thomas Haden Church and Theresa Russell."

Anyone seen either of these "Spider Man" movies yet? I hear they're pretty popular.
