Spider-Man Gets Dark!
by Scott Weinberg | February 24, 2006
Discuss Article
You'll find this pic on just about every quality movie site by now, but Superhero Hype was the first outlet to share the goods, so why not click on over there to catch an all-new (and enjoyably "dark") poster from Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3."

Apparently this is no piece of marketing gimmickry; Spidey actually does wear a black suit at some point in his second sequel.

Plotwise, we don't have a whole lot of "SM3" info: "The third installment in the saga of Peter Parker, put-upon photographer, and his quest to live up to the great responsibility that comes with his great power."

We do, however, know that the inevitably huge hit will feature series regulars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Elizabeth Banks, Dylan Baker, and JK Simmons. Newcomers include Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, James Cromwell, Theresa Russell, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

...plus you just know that Stan Lee and Bruce Campbell will pop up somewhere.

"Spider-Man 3" hits theaters on May 4th, 2007.

I have a theory that the costume will start looking like his normal one in texture and throughout the film get closer and closer to the smoother venom costume.

It all makes sense now. In the comics, Venom bites Sandman and he ends up dying(of course i think he comes back to life), now that it is almost confirmed that Venom is going to be in it that means that Venom kills Sandman. And the costume looks awesome, the only thing i fear is that they are going to make venom look just like spiderman with a black costume instead of bulking him up.

Venom
This will be a very interesting twist, if Raimi makes Venom small (like Topher Grace) and not large. Venom has always been physically imposing, so it'd be odd to see him smaller and not as intimidating. I don't know what I think about that. Hopefully, whatever happens, they kill off Mary Jane and Peter gets together with Gwen. Reversal of the comics. I love it.

or maybe it's just the regular costume with the usual colors but that pick is from a scene that take place at night, and it's shot like underworld

with that kind of photography all colors fade to dark

but it's more than a year to see this movie so I rather not to think much about it yet, we have superman to focus on this year

All I know is the official Sony release says it is Spiderman in a black costume. So, suck on that doubters.

I got the pic in an email from the Sony mailing list and they said the pic is NOT in black and white, and that it's indeed Spidey's costume. Suck on that, nonbelievers

Venom
I don't see what the big deal it. It IS Spiderm-man in a black costume, Sony even said as much. The question is, exactly what it means. Could just be symbolic, as if to say that the symbiot story will be introduced in this movie. Who knows whether that is actually the symbiot costume that Spider-man will be wearing.

Theory
This is just my theory, so please no one bite my head off here...

In Spidy 3, he will join with the Symbiot, which will aid him in the fight with Sandman, while Topher Grace will be introduced as Eddie Brock, who in my guess will be made into a clumsy second rate reporter, which would go with Grace's comedic skills, and near the end of the movie, when Peter struggles with the internal problems the alien is causing him, he'll find a way to seperate and that will be when the alien joins with Eddie. I think Venom will be the main bad guy in the 4th film, with just a glimpse of him at the end, ala the implications of Harry and the Green Goblin at the end of the 2nd movie. I really hope he si bulked up though, and not scrawny, maybe emphasizing the difference between him and Eddie.

The comics have never been followed, just used as inspiration, so that classic plotline from them is unlikely to be followed. The only problem I see with my theory is that would mean that Harry's appearence as the Green Goblin wouldn't be until the 5th movie, whihc wouldn't be until 2011-13, in that range. That is unlikely considering they introduced the plotline at the end of the Spiderman 2. I dunno, again this is just a theory that I thought of.

I can see how it looks like other crap in the trailer, Lois Lane looks like crap, Clark Kent looks like crap, Superman looks like crap, the only thing that is interesting is Marlon Brando's role as Jor-el. So why dont you shut up, you tool.

its obvious
everyone who knows spiderman, knows that the alien symbiote used spiderman before it did eddie brock. and the fact that he is in his regular costume rather than what he wore in the comics isnt a surprise because raimi has stated that he wants to stray from the comics slightly. which also explains why venom is going to be seen this early in the films.
