JB Delivers a Few "Saw (3)" Bits
by Scott Weinberg | April 18, 2006
Discuss Article
JoBlo's snagged a piece of scoopage regarding Saw 3, which begins production on May 1st in preparation for an October release date. Saw 2 director Darren Lynn Bousman will be returning, as will actors Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, and Donnie Wahlberg -- and I better hear some Dina Meyer news real soon!

From JB's: "Shooting on SAW III will begin on May 1st in Toronto for a release this October. As such, casting is currently underway for the film, which will return Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith to the roles of Jigsaw and Amanda respectively. Two of our new victims are Lynn and Jeff one of whom runs quickly afoul of Jigsaw. Lynn is a married mother in her late 30s who is kidnapped by Jigsaw. As you might expect all is not sunny on Lynn's front who's got some dark secrets she's keeping from her family. Then there's Jeff, a dad who has never recovered fully after his son died. It was an accident but he's never been able to forgive himself. How he fits into the SAW legacy is being kept a mystery. Producers are looking for name actors for both of the roles, which should be cast in the next week or so..."

What an incredible series of movies. The sequel well out perfomrmed the original. Both movies make huge profits opening weekend. As long as they keep the budget low, the actors crappy, and the blood flowing, call me THERE!

Hey hey...Cary Elwes is no crappy actor. Admittedly, he's gotten a little pudgy since his Wesley days, but...

And I have to agree. This is one sequel I won't mind seeing.

I thought Jigsaw died at the end of Saw II .. .and Wahlberg was chained to the wall so I assumed he was to die as well. That was most of the reason I liked the second movie was because there was no happy ending ...

Why is it that something moderatly succesful can't just stop? I thought the first was a gem, had cult classic written all over. Now it's been turning into the next Nightmare on Elm Street, and we're getting endless sequels with soundtracks by Mudvayne. it's pathetic. The second made me weep in remembering how good the first one was. Sure it was flawed, but it was still enjoyable. Saw II tries to hard to be, well, Saw. And I'm sure Saw III will try too hard to be Saw II.

At this point I actually WANT to see a shitty crossover battle movie between Jigsaw and someone else, ala Alien vs Predator or Freddy vs Jason, just to we can fully confirm the series' descent into mediocrity. Maybe his little giggling puppet can do battle with Chucky.

yeah, jigsaw died at the end of II
but then his retarded "student of torture" as I'm calling her takes over the job. That may have been the most lame ending ever. I'll bet in Saw III that it's like her mom or brother or something like that who's the real jigsaw killer. Pretend you're watching the Scream trilogy and you'll understand how stupid the second one was.

And besides, that entire movie was full of actors noone cares about. You've seen them all before, but they were all bit parts here and there. Although the idea of the Seventh Heaven girl all coked out was ammusing... the movie ultimately sucked.

I'm sure i'll get some crap for this post.

All of the saws have been terrible, badly-acted, low budget pieces of crap movies.

Booo to the second "student of Saw" concept. I didn't like that at all. Tobin Bell deserves to be saw throughout this series, he's great. If they no what's best, Saw will kill off his student in the next film.

I liked Saw. I enjoyed the sequel as well. I'll see the next one but I'm tired with the extra-gory sub-genre that's so rampaging the theatres now. Between the sometimes clever but ultimately disappointing theatrics of 'Hoste' and the just dreadful 'Hills Have Eyes Remake' (hmm...how many more movies can we set in the desert and have freaky people terrorize them) I'm turned off by it all. Takashi Miike is an exception because of his humor and sort of Lynchian horror style. Godforbid they remake 'Ichi The Killer'
