I refuse to see any movie starring any rapper. Why? Because they are not actors, they are rappers. Same goes for retarded models like Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton. Will Smith is the exception to the rule, but hell, he was never a real rapper to begin with.

man most rappers who have went into film actually fair preety well and are'nt that terrible, mos def is da man, ludacris is impressive, ice cube has proven he can hold his own in boys in the hood and the Friday trilogy, T.I was decent in ATL, andrei 3000 is doin well, and even eminem was tolerable in 8 mile. so don't ignore a movie that features a rapper by just basing ur opinion on a performance from 50 cent. 5o cent is the hip hop anti christ man he's fuckin killin the industry... and i mean killin in a bad way not in slang term. He's single handedly brought rap back 10 years.

All I am saying is, there are people who go to school, learn the ropes of acting, actually respect the craft of acting, and these people get passed up for jobs, while rappers, solely on the basis of being famous and have a marketable name are offered tons of roles. Why should we settle with mediocre acting when we could have people who can do the job masterfully. As soon as we start expecting more of the movie industry, the sooner the studios will wisen up and give us better movies.

On second thought, most of the movie industry will forever be retarded no matter what happens...

I must agree with Ultimate069. I think it's a shame that a lot of these singers think that just because they can sing means they can act. If they really want to act, then they have to go through the same struggles that regular actors go through to learn the craft and get gigs. These movie studios really don't give a rat's behind if the singer can act or not, they only higher them because they have a marketable name and they add clout to a movie. Producers only higher some female singers because they look good in sexy clothes (Jessica Simpson, I'm looking in your direction). For every Cher, there is a Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson or Mariah Carey. And don't even get me started on Paris Hilton trying to "act". What's really amazing is that these singers, who have been critically-panned as actors, still get offered film roles despite being critically-panned. It's as if these people don't learn their lesson.

yes, singers or pop stars i agree for the most part are terrible and spoiled, btu rappers for the most part can hold it down. A lto of tiems these guys are casted for gang related movies, and why not, some of them have lived that type of life so playing that type of role comes naturally and some of the roles these rappers accept are perfect for their type of actign ability. Ice Cube in boys in tha hood for example, did a perfect job, Tupac in juice did a perfect job, ludacris in hustle and flow did a perfect job, mos def can do preety much anything. As long as their casted in the right type of roles then there totally believable and can totally pull it off.

But I feel like they're kind of getting away with it in some way because they're being cast as rappers, drug dealers, etc. It's kind of like they're getting off easy because they're taking roles that are so close to who they were or they're persona. If they want to really impress me with their acting, they should do a role where they're cast against type.

50 cent sucks and I was really hoping that he would never make another movie again, Cage is awsome and if he's wise he'll drop out and have nothing to do with that movie. Home of the Brave could be interesting though, it does have some people I like involved with it like, Jackson, Winkler, and the very beautiful Biel.

While I detest 50 Cent, some singers can actually act. I know the odds arent well favored but look at Sinatra, Cher (say what you want she gave some of the best performances of the 80's), Bette Middler, Bjork and on occasion Queen Latifah.

Ice-T--not bad on tv, Law and Order, but stay away from the bg screen

i think another big reason I never go seen any movies with rappers or pop stars is because they are usually always shining examples of these big stars masturbatory drive to want to be a big name in everything. The movie is not marketed for the sake of the movie, it is marketed becuase look who's in it. When was the last movie you saw one with on of these people in it and the crowning ahievement was the film itself and achieving what it wanted to be, as in a good movie, rather than just a vehicle for these media whores to advertise themselves yet again.

I go see movies because I expect to be entertained for that time and for luxery of not have to focus on real life, and that experience is ruined when I am looking up and the screen and seeing yet another underving face recieve yet more screentime. It totally yanks me out of my momentary maintained disbelief that movies afford.

I agree that they are made to promote themselves, but how is that different than any other movie star? Tom Hanks hasn't really made a movie that he didn't think he could get a nomination for in a long time. Neither has Russell Crowe. Does that mean that they are rappers? Crowe has a band. He doesn't go around trying to promote that though. I do agree that I go to the movies to escape the real life. That is why I refuse to watch any of these reality shows. I usually judge whether or not I watch a movie on who's in it, what's it about, does it look like something I would want to pay $10 to see, and will I be entertained. I usually don't go to rapper movies either, but that is because I look at who's in it, and decide that it is not something I want to see or spend $10 on. I feel your ramblings only prove that you are not an ultimale and that you are just trying to promote yourself on this mesasge board.

I will address each of your arguments as you make them.

How are rappers different from legitimate actors? Well, REAL actors actually respect the craft of acting. They do a believable job, they take the time to craft their characters into something original and memorable, even if they are not nominated for any award.

Then you go on to say that you watch movies based on what they are about and who's in it. Well, if I want to watch a movie about a rapper and see as much depth as they can offer on screen, I will opt to watch BET.

As far as I promote myself on message boards, my main aim was more to call out crappy rappers who can't act and ask everyone to stop seeing their movies, because their movies are not about a story, unless you like seeing them do what they do in their music videos, and engage in violent gun battles. I make exceptions for movies with crappy people in them when the story looks good, but how many good movies can you cite that had rappers as the main characters?

I also find it dumb on your part acon to totally blast me, than bascially regurgitate everything I said. Retard.

Only 40 mil to make, but that's no including promotion and advertising. That can easily be another 10 mil, and I know this movie was hyped to sh*t. So it probably lost around 4 mil, maybe more. Sounds small but that a lot more money than I'll ever see.

A lot of rappers can act, and do put in time studyin' the craft of acting. They would be fools not to, and I'm sure the studios insist on it. Even 50 Cent had an acting coach, thing is the guy is probably so self-conscious about appearing cool that he can't let himself go in front of the camera.

It comes down to who's right for the role, if they can draw in people, and if they can act enough for the part. And Mos Def is the sh*t.
