Eminem to Anchor "Have Gun, Will Travel" Remake
We haven't seen a whole lot of M&M since he appeared (as basically himself) in "8 Mile," but now comes word that the rapper will star for Paramount in an adaptation of the old western series "Have Gun, Will Travel" -- only it's being modernized and plunked into Detroit -- which is weird.
From Variety: "Debuting in September 1957, the TV Western starred Richard Boone as Paladin, a gunfighter-for-hire.
Concept will be updated to contemporary times and see Eminem playing a bounty hunter. Setting could be Eminem's hometown of Detroit, but those details have yet to be worked out.
(Eminem's manager Paul) Rosenberg told Daily Variety that the vehicle will be revamped from the original, with some characters based loosely on ones from the series as well as nods to certain story points."

So, they're aiming for the flick to be a lot like Rutger Hauer's ill-fated 'modernization' of "Wanted: Dead or Alive." Only with Eminem. Genius.

Timothy B. writes: on Aug 06 2009 12:17 PM I keep wondering when will movie makers make a remake that does not insult the original work. I have read the reports on the movie Have Gun Will Travel. It seems that they want to make Paladen a Bounty Hunter, and only a bounty hunter. Have the writers of the new movie ever seen any of the old B and W episodes of Have Gun Will Travel? If they have they should realize that Paladen was much more than a Bounty Hunter. He had class. Almost every episode began in Old San Francisco, Ca. Paladen would not take a case if it smelled of dishonesty or was just wrong, he would not take the case. I hope that the writers and those who are casting the movie will do a good job. Does Eminem look anything like Richard Boone? From what I have seen he does not. I would broaden the search to find a actor who resembles Richard Boone. Please guys lets make a movie that the western lovers will want to watch. Otherwise what is the point. (Reply to this) |
