The New "Bond" Villain Speaks!

Mads Mikkelson, the Danish actor who landed a gig as 007's newest nemesis in "Casino Royale," sat down with a British paper to answer a few questions, and IGN FilmForce was there to get the goods online.

From IGNFF & The Sun: "Le Chiffre is a gambler and banker for international criminals and terrorists. When he loses some of his nefarious clients' money in a scheme foiled by Bond, he ventures to the titular casino to win back his losses in a high-stakes poker game. The British government sends in Bond, the best cardsharp in the service, to beat him.

"Le Chiffre is not trying to conquer the world, or invent something that'll make him King of the world," Mikkelsen told the paper. "He's just like everybody else in the world because he's trying to get rich. And that makes him a better villain."

Sounds good.

Where the Bond series went wrong was when they tried to raise the stakes SO high that villains were trying to destroy the entire planet!!! Once or twice is fine, but this villain sounds like many of the leaders we have in politics: money and power are all that many of those people desire. Some (like Bond) do their jobs to ensure the safety and security of others by putting themselves in harms way, while today's villains are those who seek to profit from the havoc of the world.

As for the film, we'll have to wait and see. lol. But good to see a practical, everyday villain going up against the revitalized Bond!!!

Thank god. The villians were just getting silly. This film looks to be the first good Bond film in forever. Fingers crossed.

This is cool. I think the last time there was a clever Bond villain was in Tomorrow Never Dies, and even then, he was over-the-top and comic booky. At least his schtick involved something besides simply holding the world hostage with a nuclear bomb or something to that effect.

the last great bond film was goldeneye,and the last good bond film was tomorrow never dies and when i went to go see the world is not enough that made me hate the james bond series and die another day wasan't much better but this one looks awesome!the commercial looks sweet

I fell asleep twice watching Tomorrow Never Dies. Very boring. Connery's and Moore's Bonds were the best. Better looking women too.
