Steve Martin Aims to do Two More "Pink Panther" Flicks
by Scott Weinberg | June 21, 2006
Discuss Article
Despite the fact that I've been a huge Steve Martin fan for well over two decades, I strongly believe that his "Pink Panther" remake pretty much stunk on toast. And despite the fact that mostly everyone seems to agree with that opinion, Mr. Martin is planning to go back for a sequel or two.

From Dark Horizons: "Steve Martin is rumoured to be doing not one, but two sequels to his god awful "Pink Panther" redux for MGM and Sony. There is one good bit of news, the people behind the camera seem to be improving. Martin is apparently now polishing a script by "Dodgeball" writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber and Mike Saltzman that sees Inspector Clouseau placed on special assignment with Scotland Yard.

Former S Club 7 singer Rachel Stevens is one of the names rumoured for the female lead. Kevin Kline, Jean Reno, and Emily Mortimer are not expected to return for the sequel. Thurber is also expected to fill the director chair instead of Shawn Levy ("Cheaper by the Dozen") this time."

--

OK, so the removal of Levy and the addition of Thurber is definitely a step up, and look at it this way: There's not much chance that the sequel will be any WORSE than the original. (Well, actually the "original" was a remake, so scratch that.)

Poor Peter Sellers, good thing he is not around today to see what ***$&^$ we made of his beloved series.

Now as I just read above.. Rachel Stevens (from S-Club7) rumored to be female lead?! Ok. If thats the case, it worth a little peek.

And if they are bringing in new writers and a new director.. things could improve. But - how I don't know?

All i can hope for is Rachel Stevens signs up! lol.

I'd be willing to give this a chance. Thurber did direct one of the funniest movies of 2004 in Dodgeball. Plus, I found some things with the first one that I liked in Steve Martin. The whole "amlburger" scene I found to be quite funny. If it's gonna happen, the whole crew must know they have some work to do to improve, so I think there's a chance. Sequels that are less in quality are seeing their diminishing returns...i.e.Miss Congeniality 2, Big Momma's House 2, Garfield 2. So, I'll wait to see about this one.

I loved the remake, all you guys are overcritical of it. It was great for what it was. I waited along time to see it because I heard it was terrible. So when I went to the theater with low expectations I was blown out of the water. Whats everyones problem. This movie was exceptional.

the remake was okkk.... but i agree with detective cody up there cuz pratically every joke was in the trailer for the pink panther movie though i did find some of the movie funny it wasan't anything like some other halerious steve martian movies anyway i am going to see the sequel since it has a new crew and everything and i'm sortof glad that kevin kline is leaving i dunno i just don't like him too much there are better actors out there but i must admit that steve martian really is no peter sellers but i have a feeling that for the sequel he might improve and bring fans what they want

Stop watching old peter sellers movies and remaking them, and start listening to your own records and watching your own old movies and work on recreating some of THAT shit. I mean, ever listen to some of his old stand up? This guy wasn't just 'funny', he was completely side-splitting. Take away the drugs, and we've got cheaper by the dozen.
Parenthood wasn't even that bad.
Father of the Bride was ok too.
But The Jerk??? too hilarious.
TAKE SOME FUCKING DRUGS STEVE MARTIN! GET SMALL! MAN UP!!

Steve Martin has been sucking since The Jerk and his days with the original cast of SNL.

Steve is just desperate for that one character he can milk for all its worth. it's clearly not about doing the old Pink Panther films justice, this is about getting another paycheck and Steve depserately to find that one character he'll be remembered for so he can remain relevant to a public that quickly forgets.
