Teaser Bulletin: "Spider-Man 3"
by Scott Weinberg | June 28, 2006
Discuss Article
It doesn't swing into movie theaters until next May, but you can catch the brand-new "Spider-Man 3" teaser right here ... and it's pretty darn cool. You can also view the flipbook here.

Starring series regulars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and James Franco -- and newcomers Topher Grace, Thomas Haden Church, and Bryce Dallas Howard (all of whom can be (briefly) seen in the teaser), "Spider-Man 3" aims to kick-start 2007's Summer Movie Season.

Thankfully, director Sam Raimi and screenwriter Alvin Sargent are also returning. And Bruce Campbell better have a cameo in there somewhere...

Here's a few selected frames from the teaser:

I like it, I think a massive CGI venom would have looked cheesy. So far the movie looks good, except for the emo peter....

Oh snap, they've done it! It going to be good. I just hope they don't rush to much in the movie, and hope Venom still comes from outerspace. Time to Rock out with my C*ck out!!!

They actually applauded this trailer when I saw Superman Returns last night. I think it was even more applause then some of them gave the film . . .

do you even know the history of venom?!
he is plagued by the symbiotic relationship with the suit. i'm guessing they're taking the 'alien' thing out of the origin, but the rest seems to be spot on.
topher grace's eddie brock will inherit the symbiot and thus venom will be born.

this looks kick ass and i cannot wait!

A while ago I was having visions of how cool it would be if the filmmakers borrowed ideas from the comic . . . like having the suit crawl over Peter while he's in bed and make him webswing while he's asleep. I really LOVED the origin story of the Venom "suit" and the clips in this teaser just make me smile a whole lot more! =)

I'll be curious to see how they avoid the whole "alien" thing. I mean, they can't have yet ANOTHER scientific experiment gone awry, can they?

It looks like they're working with the idea of DUALITY in this film:
1. Harry's dark and light side
2. Peter's two loves
3. Peter's dark and light side
4. Eddie Brock's naive innocence vs. his vengeful anti-hero

I'm not sure how The Sandman plays into all this, though . . .

My only nitpick is that I hoped they would have used the black suit from the comic . . . since it was so well-designed . . . but maybe it's being saved for Venom.

The Sandman is probably there from the beginning as a villian to fight while all the battles are happening withing the characters, as outlined by Zen Bullet.

The Trailer as a whole was awesome. We got to see Sandman, Brock, new Green Goblin, and the black suit. All the new players with all the old ones, too. I can't wait for more pics to be leaked. Liked the first of Venom.

Who would have thought that Topher Grace would go from That 70's Show to background character of the Ocean movies, to Venom? I vote Ashton in for Carnage. Ok, I don't.

Everything looked good except the Green Goblin and the emo haircut. Other than that, looks great.

It occurred to me . . . maybe Sandman represents a barometer for Spider-Man's growing power. Maybe as his regular Spidey self, Peter can't beat Sandman, but as the spider-Man/symbiote he make's mince meat of him. I'm just guessing, but since the story is about the temptation of the dark side of power, that could be what Raimi and company are going for.

Regardless, the trailer is just too cool!

So far my guess at the plot would be this:

Act 1: Regular Spidey vs. Sandman. Origin of the new Goblin. Introduce Gwen. Peter buys a ring for Mary Jane. Introduce a naive Eddie Brock. Introduce the symbiote.

Act 2. Super-Spidey learning the ropes. Faces off against Sandman. Eddie fabricates a critical news story.

Act 3. Spidey does some unforgiveable act against Mary Jane, Gwen, or the new goblin. He visits the bell tower. He finally resolves his dip to the dark side of power and temptation(temptation to join the symbiote and temptation to love Gwen) by getting rid of the symbiote. Eddie is morally destroyed by a false news blurb that Peter is responsible for catching. Peter(possibly) proposes Mary Jane. Eddie prays . . . becomes Venom . . . fade to black while we wait for Spider-Man 4.

i'm sure there will be a CGI Venom, but at the very end of the movie. I think they will set Venom up for the 4th movie. Otherwise, it would just be way too much story, with Sandman and the new Green Goblin involved. It would be a 4 and a half hour movie!!

the trailer is very nice, especially since it doesn't come out until may! let's hope the transformers teaser next week is just as nice!

If I remember correctly it's been said that the symbiot is brought down from the international space station, so it's likely not to be an experiment but a space creature.

It all looks sweet, except for the lame ass flying snowboard. Jesus, who thought that would be cool? WTF, the new goblin should use the other flying jet stabby thing that green goblin had.

Check out MY cut of the trailer here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jksn4vdgGuE, its with clips from the new teaser, but i edited them in a new way.

sitONaCHAIR,
pretty decent cut of the trailer, although the trailer didnt need to be recut, it was awesome the way it was. plus i felt like i was watching pirates of the carribean with that music.

reading some comments about the new superman movie, some have said that this teaser outshined the superman movie itself. i'm seeing superman on friday, so i will see if that is true.

I hope Sandman isn't some fake-looking CGI fest.

Personally, I thought the Spiderman Teaser outshined the Superman movie. But I'm a Spider-geek, not a Super-nerd.

Sandman was an awful misteak. It should have been Scropion or Lizard since Dr Connors has been mentioned in the first and made an appearence in the second with only one arm. I don't know what the real purpose of one of the worst villians Sandman. next time put in the beatle.

I think Sandman is a fine choice for this film. Spidey will need the power of the black suit to defeat him. (just guesing here...) And Lizard will show up in the 4th film, provided we get there.
