Itching to See "The Descent" a Little Early?
by Scott Weinberg | July 03, 2006
Discuss Article
It's been out on UK DVD for almost a year now, so if you're growing a little impatient on Neil Marshall's "The Descent," I can't say I'd blame you. Lionsgate will release the brilliant horror film on August 4th, but if you happen to live in one of these cities, you can attend an advanced sneak preview on July 26th.

Sponsored by Fangoria and Lionsgate, the sneaks will also deliver some juicy-sounding "bonus material" that won't be present when the flick opens wide on 8/4.

Starring Shauna MacDonald and Natalie Mendoza, "The Descent" is about a group of six brave, smart, and sexy women who decide to go cave exploring ... and end up stalked by some decidedly unpleasant cave-dwellers. Simple plot, phenomenal delivery. Trust me.

I saw this about a week after watching THE CAVE. Obviously THE CAVE wishes it were only half as good as THE DESCENT. It will be interesting to see how people react to it since it is an all female cast. I only wish Lionsgate had the b*lls to keep the original ending. Who cares if it will be included on the domestic dvd? I know exactly where their going to cut the ending and it's a shame. The original was much more ominous and psychological. Us "Yankees" can't handle the heavy stuff...

The american ending is just that they stop the movie sooner than the UK version. The UK version goes on a little longer which changes the outcome completely.

Also I thought this movie was nothing special. Seemed to be the typical characters doing stupid things and pop out scares with loud noises. I was disappointed because of the high foreign reviews but not as much as I was with Wolf Creek.

Also that second picture in this news article is a major spoiler, they really shouldn't of put it there...

If you go to EBAY, you can actually buy the movie. It is really good, I enjoyed it. Got it for like 15 bucks! It is in region 1 (PAL), but most DVD players these days will play it. If you got your DVD player like 4 or 5 years ago, it won't work. I actually watched it with some friends last night, they were scared...wusses!

It's not based on any book/game or movie. It's an original Horror that is the best of the Decade... Horror movie that is... Takes the Crown away from 28 Days Later.

Neil Marshall is a friggin' GENIUS. One more film this good and he's a legend as far as I'm concerned. I saw the trailer this weekend on TV and IT scared me, AGAIN. Can't wait to get my Region 2 DVD this week and wear it out.

You are either really picky, jaded or both. I have seen just about every horror pic out there and this is one of the best I've seen in a decade. I'm real sorry because if this one didn't do it for you, nothing will. And comparing it to Wolf Creek. Jeez, man. That hurt.

Can you help me? I just saw the US version of The Descent and the ending was so confusing...I hear all of this talk about the UK ending being better. What happened? It's driving me crazy! Can you clear it up for me?
