Some Juicy New Tidbits on the "DOA" Action Flick
It seems like I first saw a bootleg trailer for "DOA: Dead or Alive" about five years ago, but the flick looks to be (finally) penciled in for an August release date. The PG-13 girl-centric action flick boasts a rather colorful cast, but the producers seem to be most pleased about Jaime Pressly's newfound popularity, thanks mainly to her work on the hit sitcom "My Name Is Earl."
From ComingSoon.net: "What's great about 'DOA' is the fantastic fighting opportunities, but also the sexiness with the volleyball, with the island. It has some phenomenal fight sequences," (producer Jeremy) Bolt told ComingSoon.net. "We worked with Corey Yuen, who did the 'Transporter' movies, and we went to China. I was in China for 8 months last year making it with all the stunt people, and it [has] fantastic fight sequences, but also it's sexy. We put volleyball in the movie. There's a 3 minute volleyball sequence."

"We're ecstatic that Jaime [Pressly] has a hit show, as is Dimension," added Bolt. "She's now a household name, which is fantastic for us. She's also a brilliant martial artist, great volleyball player. She's phenomenally fit and she looks damn fine in a bikini."
Click here for a bit more on the flick, including news of the PG-13 rating. And yes, the word "sequel" is used.

on Jul 06 2006 06:20 AM This is one of those news tidbits that just confounds me. It's like I'm reading something from an alternate dimension. I mean, HOW did the creation of this . . . "thing" . . . happen? Under what laws of basic decency and business inquiry did this ever get made? But hey, IT HAS VOLLEYBALL!!!!!!!!!!! (Reply to this) |

on Jul 06 2006 09:13 AM "She's also a brilliant martial artist, great volleyball player. She's phenomenally fit and she looks damn fine in a bikini." i guess HER ACTING ABILITY wouldn't matter in a MOVIE, huh? i try to defend video games as being deep and intelligent, but each time a video game movie like this comes out, it just makes it harder and harder for me. on Jul 06 2006 09:15 AM What is wrong with you people. This movie looks awful. You should be ashamed for even considering seeing this movie. Ohh and another thing Jaime Pressly is an awful actress. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 06 2006 10:18 AM I have no issues with Jamie Pressly. She's a perfectly capable comedic actress that should be kept in roles much like My Name Is Earl(Which she was just nominated for an Emmy for. Ho ho.). But this movie looks horrid. I'm absolutely convinced that Uwe Boll is directing this under a pseudonym. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 06 2006 10:50 AM I love promo talk from movie PR guys. As a mediocre but passable martial artist, I can tell you how few brilliant martial artists there are out there, and I'll bet you a snap kick to the crotch that Jamie Pressly isn't one of them. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 06 2006 04:48 PM In reply to this comment (#839576) yes, congrats to her. she should be grateful for an Emmy nod, it's not like she'll get any Oscar nominations anytime soon when she's picking stinkers like DOA. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Jul 07 2006 10:33 AM i have to agree with dylan: i have defended video games for the longest time, having worked at an EB Games and whatnot, telling parents and adults alike that video games have the capacity to have deep meaningful stories, even if they were created for simple entertainment. yet here comes another film, demeaning everything i'm saying. what is wrong with people? why is it so difficult to make a video game film? it's not rocket science. hell, they already wrote the story for you. it's DONE FOR YOU. you just have to put it on celluloid and focus on it not sucking. but that's too much. i hate roger ebert's comments concerning how video games are not a respectable medium, but more films like these come out, only reinforcing his comments and nullifying all attempts made by people who know differently. let's hope, for the sake of all humanity, that peter jackson will not allow halo to be ran into the ground. there's hope with the new zealander. on Jul 12 2006 07:02 PM In reply to this comment (#839584) Kudos Mooney makes alot of sense. It shouldn't be that hard to remake a video game. But why tarnish a good franchise by handing it to hack directors like Uwe Boll or Paul W.S. Anderson (the latter made the first "Resident Evil" movie, which I couldn't help but enjoy). It's about time Microsoft wised up and let Peter Jackson - a powerhouse director - exec. produce "Halo." Maybe things will change. And Guillermo del Toro - direct alongside Jackson. (Reply to this) |
