Another Bout of "Babysitting"?
by Scott Weinberg | July 12, 2006
Discuss Article
Remember the 1987 comedy "Adventures in Babysitting"? The charming little farce that marked the directorial debut of Chris Columbus and kick-started Elisabeth Shue's acting career? Wasn't that a fun little movie? Yeah, well, Disney's remaking it. Awesome.

From The Hollywood Reporter: "Raven-Symone is attached to star in the Walt Disney Pictures remake of "Adventures in Babysitting." At the same time, she has signed an acting and producing deal that includes a guaranteed pay or play on one movie, with an option for a second.

The original "Babysitting," an '80s cult favorite, follows a high school senior who gets stuck baby-sitting a bunch of kids. The dull night is interrupted when she gets a call for help from a friend stuck downtown, leading her and the kids into a night of misadventures. The original movie marked the directorial debut of Chris Columbus.

Lynda Obst, who produced the 1987 original with Debra Hill, is on board to produce the remake. David Stem and David Weiss wrote the script for the new "Babysitting." No director has been named yet.:

I wonder if there will be even more Thor references in this one?

I hope so. That was an important part to the story as I remember it. They're probably just change it to spiderman or something. This is a sad day for me. I loved this movie & I can already see it failing.

Mannequin, they've got to remake this one. Police Academy of course (hang on this is already happening!)

Electric dreams, Fright night (how about a remake and a sequel at the same time), Weird Science, why even bother writing scripts anymore!

Sounds ok
I LOVE the original, so I cant wait to see how this turns out. Raven is a pretty good choice. not a huge fan, but she is talented. I just hope they dont water it down and make it some PG rated family shit!

God I thought this movie S^U^C^K^E^D (like all Touchstone movies of the '80s) when it played at the theatre I worked at 19 years ago. I thought DON'T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER'S DEAD was the sequel...Maybe THIS is the trilogy James Cameron has been working on.

Hell no!

First of all, its too early to remake a late 80s movie! Second, the original was very good and it doesn't need to be remade. Third, if they remake it, they're not going to show the references to Playboy magazine! I'm not a Playboy fan, but I don't like edits and censors.

I'm sorry... Elisabeth Shue WAS what made Adventures in Babysitting so fun in the first place. She was sexy, funny, and her lip-singing to "Then He Kissed Me" was just fun to watch. This remake is a sad venture indeed... and I refuse to watch it. Originality has gotten rather lame these days with all the remakes and sequels... lets get some new stuff out there! Man!

That's SO very Raven
Alrighty, I was WAITING to see Raven pop up here. No perv style, folks, you all need to know that RAVEN is one of the Last Hopes for young Hollywood.
Jerry Lewis hated female comedians. BS I say, RAVEN is easily the most natural comedian of her age bracket and set. This kid has FUNNY all over, I sh*t you not.
She's straight HILARIOUS in her show, and that's clean family comedy. TIMING, good skills. NOT a Pedophile case here; this girl finished school and has real-deal comedy chops and I DARE you to watch an episode of her show.
She's going to save the next generation of performers. Its called SKILLS, look it up.
Ana Van Der Pol is a different story altogether...
