South_park300 writes: on Jul 19 2006 10:16 AM i'll give it a chance. i didn't see the other 9/11 movie this year because there was a very similar looking television movie, so I am waiting for dvd. But this one on the other hand interests me more. I believe there could be a best pic nod for this. Wouldn't it be interesting though if BOTH 9/11 movies got nominated for Best Pic? Everyone would be talking as to which 9/11 movie is better, when really "Tenacious D in: The Pick Of Destiny" will win the Oscar for sure....anybody? (Reply to this) |

themaninthebox writes: on Jul 19 2006 11:55 AM oliver stone great film-maker, sometimes i don't like his methods. JFK is an extremely entertaining film, but so much of the movie is completely fictionalized. That isn't to say that this is a bad thing, but when dealing with source material like JFK's assassination, many people have taken that movie to be historical dogma. I just hope he hasn't done the same with World Trade Center. (Reply to this) |

Stro writes: on Jul 19 2006 02:29 PM capitalism vs. exploitation there are two ways to look at this movie: 1) Capitalism: our country is a beacon of democracy and capitalism...it is only appropriate that someone (Stone and those funding) make money off of the tragedy. 2) Exploitation: This movie is exploiting those that died by trying to make a buck off of the curious and sympathetic to this event. The only way I'd see this movie is if Stone and all those profitting off this movie donated 100% of profits to 9/11 charities. And on a side note this video is about 9/11 and is scary: (Reply to this) |

RoadDogXVIII writes: on Jul 19 2006 02:34 PM Rated PG-13 I'm surprised this movie's gonna be rated PG-13. Not only is it about 9/11, but it's directed by Oliver Stone. It may be a little hard to make a PG-13 version about the horrific events of that day. But we'll see how Oliver does, he needs a hit after "Alexander." (Reply to this) |

Flim Springfield writes: on Jul 19 2006 04:55 PM Sept. 11th still seems like yesterday to many people. Bringing those emotions back to the surface takes absolutely no skill, and manipulating those emotions to make money seems wrong to me. (Reply to this) |

savethemooses writes: on Jul 19 2006 05:46 PM Looks pretty good. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if both this and United 93 garner Oscar nominations for Best Picture. I want to end up seeing both soon. (Reply to this) |

wilkiedriver writes: on Jul 19 2006 05:48 PM In reply to this comment (#840528) I agree...PG-13? The Oliver Stone fanboys need to tell me when the last time he REALLY had a big hit. Was it early 90's? Don't be hatin' and say stupid shit, I would really like to know. (Reply to this) |

sockmonkery writes: on Jul 19 2006 06:37 PM I look at it this way, since I'm not from the US, I find this movie to be more interesting than the United 93 one, as it's about individuals. United 93 seemed to be the classic "US versus the evil foreigners" theme. Don't get me wrong, these movies both deal with tragic events where many died, but I would rather see how a few made it out of collapsed buildings than killing terrorists. I agree with Stro, some of the proceeds of this movie should go to 9/11 charities, that would be a clever and brave move. But maybe it's still too soon to do these movies and make a buck out of it. unbreakable_samurai writes: on Jul 19 2006 08:11 PM I like Stone and I think that this movie looks very good, one of my most anticipated films of the year. I'm very happy to hear that the early word is good. I still haven't seen United 93 yet, I will when it comes out on DVD, the previews just didn't really pull me in all the way. I'm sure this will be an emotional film though, the lady behind me in the theater this weekend started balling during the preview. (Reply to this) |

rjakjr writes: on Jul 19 2006 09:28 PM I guess it would be difficult for someone that lost a close friend/relative from 9/11 to sit through this movie or Flight 93, and I also see the point of view of some of these other posts... saying they don't like the whole idea of people "making a buck" out of 9/11. To that I can only say it shows a perfect example of using our rights as an american, mainly freedom of speech and free enterprise. No I don't mean to come off as some redneck nutjob, I'm just saying you can't put fine print on our rights as americans... if you don't like them there's always canada (at least they have good healthcare anyways). Ashron writes: on Jul 20 2006 12:05 PM In reply to this comment (#840528) To me this just means he's not going to focus on the more gritty aspects. In other words, no falling bodies and the nastiness that would be associated with that. Also, movies based on real events seem to get some leeway with the ratings board, I guess based on the reality factor (Reply to this) |

edgarandstephen writes: on Jul 20 2006 02:57 PM looking forward to it, although oliver stone's past movies sucked and are extremly boring, so i hope he doesnt screw this up.... im a bit disapointed it got a PG13 - i mean, if their gonna make a movie about 9/11, they shouldnt cut out the truth of what happened to make more profit (Reply to this) |

crxecution writes: on Jul 22 2006 03:28 PM I went to go see a movie not too long ago and didn't realize this movie was coming out and saw the previews for it, and I just started crying. I personally can't handle seeing those videos of the buildings burning and falling, and I don't know when I will, but not even 5 years after this tragedy happened is TOO SOON TO MAKE A MOVIE OUT OF IT, whatever the proclamation of intent. We had veterans from decades ago that had to seek counseling after seeing Pearl Harbor when it came out, and we're already seeing films like this? It's not right, and I don't know about the world, but i'm not ready to see it. Those pictures of that day are burned in my memory like the hottest flame known to man and it just goes right through me to think back to that day. I will never forget it as long as I live, and I hope I never do...I just hope I can move on from it, but now is NOT the time for me. That's my take on it. God bless the victims of 9/11, and god bless my home forever, NYC. Xander (Reply to this) |

Zengine writes: on Jul 26 2006 02:50 AM The strangest day... The day the world trade center got blown to itty-bits my dad woke me up and said "oh, this is bad", but all I was thinking was "You woke me up to tell me a building that I had never even heard of before caught a plane?!", but later that day (2 minutes) I was to learn of another big event "Oh right, there's 2 of those buildings, and they both fell down". Naturally I was so shocked by this I rolled over to bury my face in my pillow and try get some more sleep, but my dad reminded me it was a school day. About 40 minutes later I'm at school and for some reason there's people around me crying and staring at the tv. I offered my sympathy to them with this comment: "I know.......it's horrible. It's a sad day when the news crews have to go 15,000 miles all the way to frickin' New York just to get some explosions" (and as we all know all this dilemma has got so bad that now we've got people trying their damned-est to get some action in the middle east of all ungodly places. oh and couldn't you go west and end up there too?). Strange though, that when I said that, they all just stared wide eyed and shocked, as if I had just fed a puppy into a hand crank meat-grinder. After having a long talk with the principle (and having a teacher so emotional you'd think her husband had died not 3 hours ago looming over my shoulder the whole time) I was allowed to go back to class. Math class! I thought we might learn something useful that day as we had a whole new problem to work out: "If flight 93 was heading 500 MPH in "this" direction and the other plane in "that" direction, when did......(etc...)", but no. Instead that worthless math teacher wasn't even in class yet! As turns out I didn't even recognize her with her makeup splattered across her face and running into her collar. She was still in the principles office weeping over her dead dog, or whatever it was (I swear this school system is going no where but down. If the teachers are gonna do a crappy job they could at the very least show up). Anyways, the rest of the day was pretty chocked full of crap like that, I don't know what got into people (probably a flu, we're gettin' some bad ones in this day and age). I Finished the day by watching my personal favorite Terminator (I just love those scenes of the future where everything is totally screwed), cause no matter how weird shit gets I can always count on Arnold's arsenal of ass-kickery to set a misaligned day straight. I'll never forget that day. I think was some time in September, like.......2000....2002, yeah 2002. Ok sorry, I tend to ramble, but thanks for listening. You can get back to the forum topic I guess.
