"American Gangster" Loading Up an Explosive Cast
I was already intrigued when I heard 'Ridley Scott, Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Steve Zaillian,' but Universal just keeps throwing more actors into the mix. Well, actors and rappers.
From Variety: "Chiwetel Ejiofor and the rappers Common, TI and RZA have been set for "American Gangster," the Ridley Scott-directed drama for Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment. Ted Levine, John Ortiz and Yul Vazquez have also been set to round out a cast topped by Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.
The Steve Zaillian-scripted drama revolves around the empire of Harlem drug kingpin Frank Lucas, which involved smuggling heroin in the bodybags of U.S. soldiers killed in Vietnam."

on Aug 22 2006 11:23 AM Sounds like its going to be great I love Ridley Scott and appreciate Crowes performances!! although I may have to wait a week or two to see it because i fear this may be one of those movies people in the audience may talk and or shout during it. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 22 2006 08:24 PM I love ridley. Im surprised kingdom of heaven got bad reviews. It was a little slow and wasn't perfect, but that shouldn't reap negative responses, the movie was beautifully filmed and superbly acted. (And orlando blooms acting wasnt "bad", it was just conservative. He wasn't trying to be something he obviously wasn't. he just was. Im also pretty stoned right now.) American ganster is going to rock. (Reply to this) |

Yeah, and I won't be seeing Invincible this week, because it will definitely be filled with people who are bankers and probably just played golf earlier that afternoon after trying on some polo shirts. Honestly, you ignorant pricktard, I know this site is often filled with thinly-veiled racist nonsense, but your comment still surprised me. Wold you like me to go pick up your dry cleaning? I believe your hood is ready. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 23 2006 10:41 PM It doesn't seem racist to me to note that certain races approach the movies differently. For native Japanese, silence or a subdued reaction during and after a good film or performance is the appropriate response, while other races may feel the need to cheer loudly, and so on. It's unfair to generalize, though; I've been in movie theaters filled with white teenagers that were so loud that I left, and others with black teenagers...that were so loud that I left. The same is true at the other end of the spectrum; white or black, I don't recall any disruptions when I saw Hustle & Flow on opening night. Race doesn't make people any more or less obnoxious. If it bugs you when you're confronted with another aspect of your culture that approaches movies differently, then wait for the DVD, because I guarantee that you'll run into such things eventually when you venture out of doors. Anyway. I'm rather excited for this movie. Crowe and Washington are a pair I'm interested to see work together, and the fact that Ridley Scott is at the helm makes it an even more enticing prospect.
