Terrence Howard to be "Iron Man" BFF Jim Rhodes (AKA War Machine)!
Oscar-nominated actor Terrence Howard will join forces with Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark in the 2008 John Favreau-directed "Iron Man," playing Stark/Iron Man's close friend (and fellow superhero) Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes.
According to comic lore, James Rhodes is an African-American maverick helicopter pilot who meets Tony Stark during the Vietnam War, becomes his close friend, and later heads Stark Industries' aviation wing. As Stark dons his impenetrable Iron Man suit to fight bad guys, so does Jim Rhodes eventually become the hero War Machine thanks to a similar multi-weapon, strength-boosting battle suit.
Plot details have yet to be released, so there's no telling if the Rhodes' War Machine alter ego will be unveiled sometime in the 2008 Marvel Studios release. Variety reports that Iron Man's first supervillain will be The Mandarin, a brilliant Chinese scientist who used alien technology in the comics in his quest for world domination.
Of course, the film is still in pre-production (with filming set to begin in February) and there's already talk of sequels, so perhaps the storied saga of Iron Man and War Machine's friendship will take multiple installments to play out. Throw in Iron Man's involvement with The Avengers, a few bad guys, a love interest and Tony Stark's famous battle with alcoholism, and you've got yourself a multi-flick comic book franchise!
"Iron Man" is due in theaters May 2, 2008.

cgcbooks writes: on Oct 10 2006 03:10 PM I'm not real optimistic about this film. Who really knows who Iron Man is? Or will people even care? Marvel should just stick to their top guns, FF, Spidey, and X Men. (Reply to this) |

When i heard Robert Downey Jr was cast for the lead, i thought awesome he's a good actor all though i dont know everything about Iron Man i have faith he can pull it off. When i saw Terrance Howard get the part of Rhodey it got me really interested to see how this turns our because he is also a gifted actor who can carry even shitty movies (I.E 50 cents bullshit of a movie, Terrance Howard made the movie watchable for me.) Seems like we atleast arent going to have another Fantastic 4 on our hands (Reply to this) |

Unless i get swept away by the publicity i wont be first in line to see it but will definately see it at some point on its release. (Reply to this) |

lrm8 writes: on Oct 11 2006 08:37 AM sounds legit to me, but when are they going to make a truly epic superhero movie? some have tried but not come even close (superman returns), some just arent built for "epic" tales (spiderman), xmen could have been, but fell short i think. thats why i think they should make a silver age-ish green lantern movie with a kind of 2001ish feel. that would be awesome. at least iron man is not being produced at Fox, because they wanted keanu reeves for the wolverine role and if im not mistaken they are behind fantastic four as well. downey and howard are legit actors and like someone said at least it wont be another FF. I wonder who they will get for mandarin. ken watanabe wouldnt be a bad choice, even though he is japanese, and has already been in a supehero movie, although he is an obvious choice. i dont really like it when there is a foreign actor du jour in hollywood, because one guy monopolizes all the foreign roles. im sure when any asian part comes up in a movie, the suits always go "hey! lets get jackie chan/jet li!" hopefully that doesnt happen with watanbe. elziard writes: on Oct 11 2006 12:44 PM credible actors behind a credible director - none have any action experience. that's the only question mark for me: how will their experience translate into a new blockbuster action film? this could be a one and done dud, or be a bit more epic. i've been a fan of shell head for years so i like where this is going.
