Angelina Jolie to go 3-D in Robert Zemeckis' "Beowulf"?
By now you've no doubt heard about Robert Zemeckis' animated "Beowulf" project that stars Angelina Jolie and Anthony Hopkins and was written by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary. The flick doesn't open until next November, but here's some amusing news: It'll also hit screens in 3-D!
From IGN Movies & The Hollywood Reporter: "Filmmaker Robert Zemeckis is bringing his live-action/CG adaptation of the classic Beowulf tale to the big screen in three dimensions. A story in today's Hollywood Reporter reveals that Zemeckis is creating a version of his epic to be shown in Real D and other larger format 3-D theaters. The enhanced versions of the film will open the same day as the standard release, November 16, 2007.
Angelina Jolie, Ray Winstone, Crispin Glover and Anthony Hopkins are attached to star in the film which will utilize performance-capture technology, similar to what Zemeckis utilized on "The Polar Express."
In the poem, Beowulf, a hero of the Geats tribe, travels to Denmark to help defeat a monster named Grendel. He later returns to Geatland, where he becomes king."

kendragon writes: on Jul 27 2007 05:10 AM You would think that hollywood would be smarter than this.... Zemeckes is obviously pioneering a revolution in movie making... remember polar express? that may not have looked great but with each film he does he is moving closer to a future without the need for expensive actors. Synthespians or virtual actors will look and act so real that we wont complain about the difference. I for one cannot fathom any other reason why you would go to so much effort to create realistic looking humans in movies. It is very very difficult to fool an audience into believing these are real and everytime something happens that our brains know is not right we will lose the immersion in the story and it will probably ruin the flick for a lot of people... He would be better off making the characters less human and more of a caricature... The actors whose likeness they are using in this film might be doing themselves out of a job soon... lol.
