Is Someone Making a "Seven" Prequel?
by Scott Weinberg | November 01, 2006
Discuss Article
Now here's some odd and potentially distressing news: Word is that someone in Hollywood may very well be mounting a prequel to the awesome David Fincher flick "Seven," which is sometimes called "Se7en," but I refuse to do it that way. Sorry.

From Bloody-Disgusting.com: "Short and sweet news here. I'm holding in my hand right now the treatment for the prequel to "Se7en," New Line Cinema's cult classic from 1994, which was a police drama about two cops, one new and one about to retire, after a serial killer using the seven deadly sins as his MO.

The treatment, which is now being sent out for writers, is entitled "Virtue" - why the change of name? Well the idea was to keep the prequel a secret, but who in Gods name could keep that quiet? The film would be released and marketed as it's own entity, but when the finale comes to light we are hit with a revelation that we're watching the next Se7en film."

That actually sounds kinda cool... a sequel that nobody knows would be a sequel until a plot twist at the end. Guess its a bit too late for that though.

For crying out loud Hollywood, come up with new material. How many more of our beloved films can you remake, or reimage, or revisit, or make shotty sequels/prequels to? Have you no shame?

I absolutly love this movie. Why in God's name do we have to make a prequel? It's perfect as it is. I'm hoping that whoever has the rights to this little entity, be it Andy K. Walker or David Fincher or someone else, I'm hoping they keep this from seeing the light of day.

Please.

It seems as if someone sat in a studio boardroom and said "Hey, we could make six prequels to 'Seven' and call the first film 'One'and continue on unil we reach 'Six' and then we can begin the sequels with a movie called 'Eight'. Wow! Just think of the shitload of money we can make!"

Let me guess...
The prequel will star young actors and actresses from some hot CW show(s) , make it PG-13, and production values you find in straight-to-DVD films.

How about "Seven: The Rise To The Lucky Number"?

That sucked........

i love seven. one of the most u nderrated movies of all time. i always forget to mention it as one of my favorite movies but whenever it comes up i instantly remember how awesome it is.

to me, its all about the casting and the director. if they are serious about making a great movie and have a serious director, thats acceptable. the only thing is that i cant think of what the plot would be. following brad pitt's character? no, he's a cop in arizona or something. morgan freeman's character? it wouldnt work since there is no "young morgan freeman" working today... if they want to give it a crappy prequel treatment just to make some money im not even seeing it. if they brought david fincher to direct, it would instantly add legitimacy with me.
