Beau Bridges Hints About New "Stargate" Movies
by Scott Weinberg | December 07, 2006
Discuss Article
It's been so long since I've watched "Stargate SG-1" that I didn't even realize Beau Bridges was on the thing! And now he's dropping a few hints that some big-screen adaptation(s) may be in the works.

From ComingSoon.net: "Last night at the world premiere of Warner Bros.' The Good German in Hollywood, ComingSoon.net talked to Beau Bridges who revealed a bit about what is going on with the long running sci-fi series "Stargate."

"They're talking about doing a couple of movies. I haven't actually signed on the dotted line, but there is talk about it," he told us. Bridges plays Major General Hank Landry on "Stargate SG-1."

While he hasn't actually seen a script and doesn't think the season will wrap up leading into the films, he does think the scripts are finished. "Yes, I think they must be. Yes."

Hence... SARCASM

frankly I never liked the show, it always kind of felt like if you took all of the low-budget crap on Sci-Fi and put it in a blender.

My sarcasm was a comment on the fact that I really like the original movie and always disliked the cheap knock-off TV show, therefore Beau Bridges is unworthy to comment on any future movies, and the fact that the tone of this article seemed to suggest a TV to Movie adaptation, when the TV show is an adaptation of the movie, and in my opninion a poor one.

...and I know a lot of genre fans have a real hard for the show, which is fine, but as a genre fan myself, I always found it to be crap

The movie was good, and more movies could be good. But they'd have to go back with Kurt Russell and James Spader, and get rid of the characters on the TV show. The show is a low budgeted, poorly written version of the movie, in my opinion.

Then you haven't really watched enough of the show.

I thought the same thing, but then bored with everything else one day, I started into season 1. It was pretty good; much better than I expected, having only watched scattered episodes spanning the entire series up to that point.

Season 2 was great, and by season 3 my wife and I were watching three episodes a day. It took a while, but it does have the hook.

Yeah... that's pretty much what everyone says... and friends have tried very hard to get me into the show, and I have watched a very good sampling... I just don't like it...

I sat down to finally watch stargate sg-1 about 2 months ago season one and within about 6 weeks i finished season 9 and am eagerly awating season 10 on dvd. This show not only hooked me but draged me into a wonderful world with amazing charecters. I for one will be there opening day for another stargate movie. Also the reason it took me so long to watch the show is i hated the movie with a passion i thought it was slow and boring. The kids learning how to use atomatic wepons so quickly grated on me. I liked the begning and the concept was great it just started putting me to sleep tho. I commented on the way out of the thursday night showing we went to of stargate that it would be a fantastic tv show and guess what it is.

Ok? Cookie?

I assume by your "Guess what it is" closing that your post is declaration that I'm not entitled to my opnion that the movie was great and the show is crap, even though I implicitly stated that I am well aware that a lot of people don't agree with me.

The sarcastic remark I made opening the thread, and my subsequent remarks only point out that I liked the movie, didn't like the show, and felt that the RT Article did not pay due reverance to the movie.

Guess what it is?

Whatever, grow up.

I like the show. It's fun, and it doesn't take itself too seriously, though I'm not sure what to think about it heading to the big screen.

And can everyone stop fighting on every discussion on the site for like, five minutes? If you all tried to, I dunno, RESPECT peoples' opinions, maybe we could (gasp!) actually get along. Seriously, I'm sick of everyone acting like a bunch of pugnacious ten year olds all the time.

I've watched seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4 so far. I watch it while I work on my computer. But I've never been grabbed by it. I agree the characters are alright, but you know, after watching something for 10 hours, most characters in every show would be at least a LITTLE interesting. It's a tad bit too goofy for me. Col. O'Neill's sarcasm would never fly. He reacts to things, including the death of fellow soldiers, with unrealistic sarcasm, and annoys me more than entertains me. But again, I liked the movie enough to buy it.

I think a Stargate sequel based on the original movie is outdated. I doubt Kurt Russell and James Spader would come back anyway. If you're going to make a Stargate movie you might as well start from scratch with a hint of what transpired in the television show. Personally I think SG1 is great B+ entertainment and the movie was a great B+ movie. Dare I say it? I like them both.
