Oedekerk Hired to Rehaul Tim Burton's "Ripley," Believe It or Not
by Scott Weinberg | December 18, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
When Paramount shelved Tim Burton's "Ripley's Believe It or Not" a few months back, some people thought the project was dead in the water. Well hey, apparently not.

Not only are Burton and Jim Carrey still attached to the project, but it looks like Paramount is eying a late-2008 production date. Plus they've hired comedy expert Steve Oedekerk to rejigger the screenplay originally written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski.

From Variety: "Oedekerk, who'll be paid a seven-figure fee, has long been a Carrey go-to-guy. They began collaborating on "In Living Color," and Oedekerk wrote and directed "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" and scripted "Bruce Almighty." Oedekerk most recently scripted the Tom Shadyac-directed "Evan Almighty," starring Steve Carell."

Click here for the full article. (And for the record, Oedekerk also wrote "Barnyard," "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist," and "Patch Adams.")

I want more movies where Jim Carrey acts like a fool. I've never heard of him doing anything like this. Does anyone know what the plot outline might be for Ripleys?

Yeah I have to agree Kung Pow is a Cult Classic. Patch Adams was pure Dreck, it wanted to be a Academy Award Contender but it was just......Horrible memories comming back into my head. Bruce Almighty and Steve Allrighty? Is that the next one? I never saw Bruce.....But it looks ok. Steve makes dumb but harmless films I think it'll work.

was pure genius marketed really really poorly. i refused to watch it and mocked it for a while before actually sitting down to watch it, and it is comic gold.

i didnt' know people existed that enjoyed Kung Pow as much as I did. And I agree, the marketing was shit, Oedekerk deserved better. And another personal fave of mine is Nothing to Lose (it's magic and high talent when a director can drag a small drop of acting skill out of Martin Lawrence).
