Cohen's "New" Bruce Lee Film a No-Go
by Jeff Giles | January 26, 2007
Discuss Article
Maybe you heard the news, leaked awhile back, that "XXX" and "Stealth" director Rob Cohen was planning on using existing footage and CGI wizardry to put together a new Bruce Lee movie. Or maybe you didn't hear the news, and now, reading it for the first time, you're shaking your head, moaning "No, no, no" uncontrollably, and breaking out in a cold sweat.

But not to worry, because Dark Horizons reports that -- according to GeeksOn and Twitchfilm -- the project ain't gonna happen. Lee's family, previously (and inexplicably) on board, has withdrawn its support -- and since the family owns the rights to any such projects, its support is crucial.

Dark Horizons speculates that this withdrawal may be related to this week's announcement of a planned Bruce Lee biopic, based on a family-written book about the star's life; Donnie Yen is rumored to star.

Thank God! The dead need to stay dead. The last thing we need is a whole movie that looks like Tony Sopranos last conversation with his mother.

The family saw the guy that was going to do it, realized he made freakin' XXX and Stealth (two of the worst films, possibly ever) and were snapped back into reality. Glad you woke up Bruce Lee's family....glad you woke up...

Very good news, I'm very happy about this not happening. The Biopic movie could be allright though, I like Donnie Yen.

As much as I agree with your distaste for this film, your response and opinion towards Rob Cohen was slightly uneducated. Just incase you were unaware, rob cohen directed the bruce lee biopic Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, which happened to be a solid depiction of Lee's life. I'm sure that for this reason only he was considered suitable for directing duties for this canned Lee film, not for his mindless action films.

Actually, I wasn't aware of that, good to know (and it makes a lot more sense now..). Even so, I'm glad this isn't happening.
