Joel Schumacher Lost in "Lost Boys" Sequel
Fans of '80s movies, cool vampire horror or The Coreys Haim and Feldman have all awaited the possibility of a "Lost Boys 2." But the idea that Warner Brothers might produce it for the straight to DVD market is disheartening. Even the film's director, Joel Schumacher, can't ensure the classic gets a proper theatrical sequel.
"I told them to do 'Lost Girls' and not do 'Lost Boys Sequel,'" Schumacher said. "There is no 'Lost Boys' sequel. All the boys are dead. But The Lost Boys are all dead. The Coreys are too old. So what would be the movie? You'd have to make up a whole new set of characters."
That is likely the plan. See how big the Stifler family got in the "American Pie" sequels. "It could be a vampire movie. It's a great name. I told them to do 'Lost Girls.' It'd be great. I said, 'Do gorgeous teenage biker chicks who are vampires. It'll be great.' But they don't listen to me."
Schumacher doesn't even get paid for the use of the title. "No, no, no. I don't own it. I don't own 'Lost Boys.'"
The director had been approached for other sequels, but if he didn't want to make them, they were fair game. "There is no sequel to 'Flatliners' in my mind, but they own those. You don't own them. You're not yours. They did '8mm 2' which we knew nothing about. They slapped the title on a movie that had nothing to do with 8mm. I think it was direct to DVD because the '8mm' DVD made so much."

dagreenman18 writes: on Feb 04 2007 11:14 AM The only point i agree with Shumacher on is 8MM2. That had absolutly NOTHING to do do with the first, so why call it a sequel. seriously why. As for Lost Boys, leave it alone. please. it was good the first time. Not every movie needs a sequel. you don't see a titanic sequel. oh god i just gave some studio asshole an idea. (Reply to this) |

liono86 writes: on Feb 04 2007 03:44 PM Hey, give the guy a break. I mean, you can't do great in all of your projects. And, don't tell me "Yes you can. Look at Scorcese." Ol' Martin is way overrated. And, besides, Batman & Robin sucked as a sequel, but, if it was it's own film and was said that it was being made for campy fun purposes, then, in that aspect, it was pretty enjoyable. liono86 writes: on Feb 04 2007 03:45 PM P.S. I don't think there is really any need for a Lost Boys sequel or a spinoff. But, if I had to pick one, i'd go with a spinoff, such as stated, Lost Girls. It could be fun. (Reply to this) |

ffamilyguy writes: on Feb 04 2007 08:44 PM I think they need to get the original cast, and continue the story years later, except they are grown up. New vampires though! Shoot, it would be cool if they got Donald Sutherland (Keifer's Dad) to play the father of David seeking revenge! I am an ordinary person with a waaaaaay better idea than a crappy LOST GIRLS... Joel has turned gay I think.....not that there is anything wrong with that! (Reply to this) |

killermonkey8822 writes: on Feb 04 2007 09:47 PM joel scumcacher is one of those directors that usually makes bad movies but will sometimes come out with a good movie and one of those good movies was the lost boys sure it was silly but it was also one of the best vampire movies i have ever seen and works out better then most horror comedys. Overall just leave the classic as it is so joel scumacher can actually say that he atleast did something good. (Reply to this) |

jarek writes: on Feb 04 2007 09:50 PM I don't understand why Schumacher gets such a bad rap. Yes, he directed some terrible big budget flicks - Batman & Robin, Batman Forever, Bad Company. I understand that side of things.... but that is all people ever hard on him over... films that he didnt' have creative control and that had a million producers. Now, lets compare that to the films he's made on a lesser budget where he had more control - Phone Booth, Tigerland, Flawless, Falling Down, The Lost Boys, Flatliners, Dying Young..... HE IS NOT A BAD DIRECTOR. Hell, even the Grisham adaptions he did were somewhat decent (The Client & A Time To Kill). And his new flick with Jim Carrey, The Number 23, again looks to be fairly interesting. So lay off of him already! (Reply to this) |

taran72 writes: on Feb 04 2007 10:53 PM In reply to this comment (#854764) It's not that he's a BAD director per se...it's the fact his movies are never as good as they should be. Falling Down and 8mm were neutered - funny how he talks about how successful 8mm was, but according to imdb it barely made back its budget at the box office. Bat&Rob of course sucked, and he killed the franchise and several careers. Flawless made no money, Dying Young was a cheesy chickflick. Phone Booth was a waste, but Tigerland was great - for a Schumacker movie (Reply to this) |

carrierj1 writes: on Feb 05 2007 02:12 PM In reply to this comment (#854765) OK Director This guy is OK. He may not make great movies but most of his movies are pretty good. I think his Batman movies where ill conceived. I also think he said 8MM was a profitable with the DVD release. I don't think he said anything about the box office. What do you mean his movies aren't as good as they "should" be? According to whom? I think the real reason he gets such a bad rap is because of "Batman and Robin". When his first Batman came out everyone loved him. It was succesful but looking back everyone realizes how cheesy it was. (Reply to this) |

lbt writes: on Feb 06 2007 05:43 PM cockballs most of his movies as great, the Batman flicks were probably done for the cash and how much control over that shitty franchise would he really have anyway? I'd only support a Lostboys sequel if the original cast came back and they worked out some way for keifer to get back in there AND it was big budget. THAT I would pay for... otherwise fuck WB!
