Nicolas Cage as "The Sorcerer's Apprentice"?
Of course you know the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" segment from Walt Disney's "Fantasia." It's the one where Mickey has to deal with a gigantic army of magical brooms. Well, that story was based on a poem by Johann Goethe ... and that's the story that might be made into a live-action movie starring Nicolas Cage.
I probably wouldn't believe this news if it hadn't come from The Hollywood Reporter, but here's the scoop: Mr. Cage is indeed "attached" to a live-action "Apprentice," only it would be a New York-set modernization of the tale -- a big-budget family-friendly adventure epic in which Cage would play a sorcerer who needs, you guessed it, an apprentice.
No director is connected to the project just yet, but we're told the screenplay comes from the writing team of Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal -- also known as the guys who wrote "The Jewel of the Nile," "Superman 4: The Quest for Peace," "The Beverly Hillbillies," "Mighty Joe Young," and "Planet of the Apes."

on Feb 13 2007 04:08 AM Nicholas Cage and the screenwriter of Superman 4 and Beverly Hillbillies doing a live action segment from Fantasia. Sound's like a real Mickey Mouse operation to me. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 13 2007 06:36 AM the writer of superman 4... awesome. Picture this: Nick Cage, in order to secure peace between him and all the other wizards in the world, gathers together all the magic wands and hurls them into the sun! The sun then explodes and kills the entire planet. This of course makes having an apprentice pointless and the movie ends in the first 15 minutes. The movie somehow still costs $120 million and Nick Cage is never allowed to act again, except for National Treasure 2 in which he attempts to say "the declaration of independence" more than the 45234 times he said it in round one. nick cage bugs me. on Feb 13 2007 07:36 AM I'll admit, Nic Cage's acting is kind of one-dimensional. If you saw him in one role, he'll be the same in all the others. As for the Apprentice's director, how about Tim Burton? I'd like to see a friendly kiddy movie get a dark twist. And Apprentice had a pretty scary element in it already. Anybody think so? on Feb 13 2007 10:04 AM Nic Cage's acting has been good in the past, ie. Adaptation, Leaving Las Vegas, and Bringing out the Dead. The problem is the writing, no actor can make crap into gold. So if the writer happens to be the guy who did Superman 4, then I expect crap. Sorry Nic. Lastly, I must say that there is NO NEED to remake this into live action. I know the concept won't work, and therefore I highly doubt I won't see this. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 13 2007 10:38 AM In reply to this comment (#855723) You should be the writer of this one, it may actually be good! As for Cage, he has his moments ie; Adaptation, Weather Man, Lord of War, unfortunatelty though most of his moments are bad. Everytime I see him in the Ghost Rider trailer I cringe and wonder what in the hell was he thinking. This is the same man who insisted on playing Superman. Cage couldn't play Superman in a Mel Brooks version of it. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 13 2007 12:48 PM In reply to this comment (#855728) ha! my next plot point that i didn't include: Since Cage screwed us all and blew up the sun, he decides to build a space ship and send his apprentice out into the galaxy to a planet where he will survive and be accepted. Course since Cage is a moron, he sends him to the wrong planet where the apprentice is immediately killed on site by some alien or a mutant form of one of cage's stupid roles... maybe castor troy? Anyhoo... the kid gets off the space ship , the aliens walk up to check him out, shoot him like 5 seconds later, then the aliens walk away as if the whole thing never happened- THE END. I felt that part was too superman story and one wants Cage associated with Superman movies in any form. It would also add a good 5-10 minutes to the film, and that would just be too much. So i ended it with the sun blowing up and nick cage dying. Maybe the the apprentice thing could be like a 5 minute sequel... (Reply to this) |

on Feb 14 2007 12:07 AM Tim Burton would be cool, but even he couldn't make it work if the film is set in a MODERN DAY New York City. This movie has bad written all over it. (Reply to this) |
