Now here's a dream project that should fill the comic geeks and the movie nerds with much excitement: Warner Bros. just hired a husband-wife writing team to pen a "Justice League" movie.

Yep, we MIGHT get Superman, Batman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter on the big screen ... together! This could be the biggest thing for DC comics movies since the original "Superman" kick-started this wonderful sub-genre back in 1978.

So here's the FAQ:

Will it be Christian Bale as Batman and Brandon Routh as Superman? Dunno.

Will directors Christopher Nolan ("Batman Begins" and impending sequel) and Bryan Singer ("Superman Returns" and impending sequel) be involved? No idea.

Do we know for sure which heroes will be involved? Nope.

Who the heck are these writers, anyway? Kiernan Mulroney is the brother of actor Dermot Mulroney; Michele is his wife. Although they don't have any screen credits just yet, Variety states that they impressed a lot of people with their polishing work on "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." Plus they're probably big comic book fans.

Other things we don't know yet: Who'll be in it, what it will be about, when it will take place in the League's history, and whether or not the thing will cost more than $200 million to produce.

What we do know is that there will one day be a live-action "Justice League" movie -- and I will be there to see it.

Tomatometer (barely rotten 59%) and box office says differently about Mr. and Mrs. Smith. So I have a feeling the studio went with that than your opinion, renny. :)

As with superhero team movies, it'll take quite a bit of magic to find a good combination of action and characterization within 2 hours of running time.

How about replacing Aquaman with someone useful. Even Hawkman's more useful and all he does is fly around. It seems like they always have to force some dumb way to involve Aquaman. Like have the villain hideout be next to a lake or something.

Homina homina homina this would be awesome. Maybe Superman would actually punch something in this one! And I really hope Singer doesn't direct. In my opinion, all ya gotta do is compare "Begins" and "Returns" and it's obvious that the director of "Begins" did a better job. It would be awesome though. But plllllllllllleaaaaaaaase not Routh as Superman.

a few things here:
1. true, mr and mrs smith was (in my opinion) pretty bad, but apparently the guy who messed it all up was the director and editor, because from what ive read there were entire storylines chopped up and some of it reinserted and thats why the plot didnt make any sense. so maybe they had a good script, we dont know.

2. i read elsewhere that the screenwriters in question had impressed people based on their work for the mr and mrs smith TELEVISION show, but now with this report, i dont know if that was true or not.

3. i think aquaman is the one who founded the league (not 100% sure about this), so some re-writing would be needed from the comic books if aquaman was phased out.

4. i think this movie is a really bad idea. warners wants to have their own little xmen franchise, but from a placement point of view, it messes with their big guns, batman and superman (and i guess to a lesser extent, the Flash, which after the hiring of shawn levy is completely dead to me). marvel had xmen and THEN planned spin off movies (wolverine, magneto, etc)... i dont really see how you can work out all these issues (will bale/routh be in it, how to avoid audience confusion, etc) unless the JLA movie happens after the batman trilogy and however many superman sequels are put out.

Oh for the love of all things great and in the comics, let the team behind the show Justice League write the movie! They know the characters, they know how to write an adaption of comic books to the screen. Just watch Justice League Unlimited season 1 and 2 to see one of the greatest seasons of any show, live action or cartoon. God, if the creators of the series got behind the camera, I would flip out and say for the first time ever that Hollywood knows what its doing...

But they won't, because Hollywood is a bunch of dispshits.

Are you kidding me!!! What was wrong with Routh as Superman. He nailed the role. Given the movie could have had more action, but that's hardly his fault.

I think this movie would be really difficult to do. Because its the whole Justice League and it would be hard to do every member justice on the screen....my opinion

Simply put, you can't have a film based around heroes who are larger than life, performed with the actors in their respective parts. Bale works fine as Batman, on an independent basis. But when you start amalgamating these characters and the actors together, you will never fully dive yourself into this world, without always anticipating the next walk on cameo or appearance.
Take this idea, have it rendered the way Alex Ross would paint it and create the kind of world that Final Fantasy created. Do this correctly and there is no stopping what you could do. Kingdome Come, you name it. You start looking for live actors to do this, and you simply lose the appeal to who these heroes are and what they look like.

Agreed. If you really think this should be live-action, just close your eyes for a second and try to picture it. A bunch of grown men and women in those goofy Halloween costumes (I don't care if you yell, Superman's red undies do not translate well to film) running around trying to save the world. Reminds me of that Robot Chicken superhero Real World sketch. It would be so cheesy.

Aside from that, I hate the idea.

they should reallllly consider this a little bit more. i don't see how a 2 hour or 3 hour movie could ever work for this sort of movie. As already mentioned, way too many character that need way too much screentime to try and develop them. not too mention the rest of the story...i just don't see this working. X-men works, yeah, but even that movie focused mostly on wolverine, but i can't see that working for the justice league.

if the story plays out like a trilogy. That's why Kingdome Come would be very intriguing to tackle, because you can break it into 3-4 parts, and ride it out into a LOTR epic. Same could be said for Miller's: Dark Knight Returns.
Render the art to look like Miller's drawings and CGI it. It would be brave and exhilerating.

But only if they base it on "superfriends". They should aim really low and make sure the dialogue is horrible.

The plot will be something like this:
Aquaman will see the MantaRay (or other ridiculous villain) dump taxic waste into the ocean. He'll confrot him and get his ass kicked like a little girl. Then the rest of the Justice League will show up to save him, but get captured. Then, right before the earth's oceans are destroyed forever, Superman shows up and kills all the bad guys without breaking a sweat.

it won't work as a movie. bale can't be in it because batman begins is in a different timeline. the justice league came way after the timeline of begins. superman returns's timeline is way after the justice league. they would have to jump way ahead on batman's end and go way back on the superman end. it would be confusing and stupid.

I dont know they replaced the greatest Green Lantern, Hal Jorden with the worst, John Stewart just so they could have a black in the league, not to mention they had Hawkgirl in the show which is was the stupidest thing ever.

Actually he was the worst Superman ever in the worst superman movie ever. The guy has no muscles, is a twig, looks like a little bitch and sucked. He is a horriable Superman, they need to find someone that actually has muscles.
