Rolling Stones Get Animated With "Ruby Tuesday"

Back in the psychedelic '60s, The Beatles got animated for the film "Yellow Submarine." Four decades later, it's the competition's turn. The Rolling Stones have licensed 12 of their songs for an animated film to be produced by Luc Besson, who is on an animation kick since "Arthur and the Invisibles."

"We did another animated film called Ruby Tuesday with the Rolling Stones," he said.

Unlike "Yellow Submarine," the Stones are not characters in this film. Their song will just provide the musical interludes. Eat your heart out Elton John, Alan Menken, Phil Collins and all the other Disney regulars.

"It's an animated film with 12 songs of the Rolling Stones," said Besson. It's going to be great."

Per IMDB, "Ruby Tuesday" is about a "single mother in New York looking for happiness" and is currently filming. At the helm are French animation brothers Gaetan and Paul Brizzi ("DuckTales: The Movie," "Fantasia/2000").

I never got into Rolling Stones. Sympathy for the Devil is their only song I really like. Suppose it can't get worse than The Wall though.

Common the Stone have some killer songs, Gimme Shelter is a classic. I'd like to get a song list for the movie, i hoping for some Jumpin Jack Flash and Under My Thumb, next in line should be The Allman Brothers!!

Yes, they have some alright songs. Suppose they're just not my cup of tea, along with Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Out of the classic rock bands to emerge in the 60s and 70s my favourites are The Beatles, The Who and Queen.

I'm more into the 90s rock bands. Those were the days.

of the classic rock bands, the stones have to be considered #2 behind the beatles... even though i like led zeppelin better than the stones, the good stones songs are "really" good, if that makes any sense. i guess you can say i like zeppelin better overall, but i like the good stones songs better. kind of like how the the pistons are a better team than the timberwolves, but kevin garnett is much better than any individual player on the pistons.

i do like the idea of making movies based on a bunch of songs. not like in a musical, chicago or moulon rouge type sense, but a movie or cartoon where the music provides some of the sub plots. i would love to see a movie based on a bunch of white stripes songs (probably a love story with some drugs) or radiohead songs (futuristic society with fascist 1984 like issues)

early 90s rock bands were good, nirvana, stone temple, early offspring, early oasis, presidents of the united states of america, they were good (although most of them were not all time classics like the beatles, et al.). they are all better than the crap bands we got now, like my chemical romance and all the other stupid shit kids listen to these days. wow. i sound like an old man and im only 23.

The bands that are heard nowadays were much more influenced by Nirvana than the Stones. Nirvana changed everything by making songwriting more important than badass guitar licks.

I could see Radiohead songs made into a movie.

I prefer the concept of making an album into a movie, instead of a "best of" type compilation. I could see The Killers' Sam's Town made into a film.

Oh, and The Wall was awesome because it was unflinchingly avant-garde. You can't argue that, even if it isn't your cup of tea.

Love Pink Floyd...love The Wall..hate the Wall movie. Why? Cause Alan Parker is a terrible director (same guy who did Life of David Gale or whatever lame Spacey vehicle it was.

Ruby Tuesday? This would have been great 40 years ago when the Stones were still pertinent (there new album is pretty decent however).

I agree about nirvana, they are actually the one band i meant when i said that "most" of the early 90s bands arent considered all time greats, nirvana is considered one even though they may be a tad bit overrated because of the whole premature death thing and the bands that influenced them, like the pixies, dont get the credit they deserve (dont get me wrong though, i love nirvana)...

The Wall. personally i dont like it cause im not a pot head, but i can see why many people do (even those who arent pot heads).

the bands today (or at least, the "popular" ones you see on the grammy's and on top ten lists and stuff) dont do it for me at all. the killers have become to whiny-ish, you dont get the feeling that they are singing the music just for singing, they are too fake i think... although franz ferdinand cuts some mustard. if you do like bad ass guitar licks instead of song writing, i'd just like to suggest the Black Keys, they have some bad ass bluesy old school rock shit. i know this is a movie forum but im bored at work so...

also, im pretty sure any decent music fan could tell the difference between aerosmith and rolling stones, not to mention that the stones are still putting out good material (for rockers who are 60+)
