Jet Li IS "The Mummy," We Think
by Scott Weinberg | March 22, 2007
Discuss Article
It's official: Jet Li has signed on to play a villain in Universal's second sequel to "The Mummy." And no, there's still no word on whether or not Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are coming back.

Sources indicate that the studio is keeping the plot under tight wraps, although it seems that the flick will open in Ancient China before jumping ahead to a post-WWII setting. Hm. The screenplay comes from "Smallville" creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and (has been reported numerous times) Rob Cohen is taking over the directorial reins from producer Stephen Sommers.

Apparently at least one scene in the flick will deal with the legendary "terra cotta warriors," which might be pretty nifty to watch. Regarding Mr. Li, it looks like he's still "in negotiations" with the studio, but it's probably a done deal by this point. Raise your hand if this sequel sounds like a good idea.

Chinese mummies sounds interesting. I think the whole Egyptian mummy storyline has definetly become cliched

the concept of Chinese mummies does sound promising, which is why they should start from scratch and not make this a sequel to the first ones. It should have a completly different feel and storline (just DONT overdue it with the martial arts, it'll look ridiculous seeing a Kung Fu Mummy)

Only with a translator, please.
OK...
Now, the mummy will need a translator (or subtitles), to be understood by the American audiences... because frankly, no body really ever understand what the action stars a-la Shwarzenegger, Stallone, Seagal, Van-Damme or Jet-Li ever speak in thier wierd accents.

God help us.

Sasha Baron Cohen takes over Brendan's role.
JET LI is the MUMMY.
BORAT aka Sasha Baron Cohen, takes over the role of the protagonist Brendan Fraser...

After meeting with Borat, and witnessing his shameful acts--- the mummies try to stab themselves to death again--- as Borat continues to interview them for the 'Greater Benefit of Glorious Kazakhsthan'--- and then the mummies prefer to return to thier graves, rather than witness Sasha's "new comedy acts"...

Cut!! Print!!! That's a wrap on "The Mummy 3: Borat meets Mummy", everyone!!

I'm pretty sure the Mummy didn't speak english in the first two films anyways. So, i'd figure he'd be speaking Chinese the whole film like the other did egyptian.

I hope they at least bring back familiar characters of Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah(Weisz's brother in the films), and Oded Fehr-although, it probably wouldn't make sense for his character to be in china.

Oded won't be there.
I read somewhere that he would like to be in the next Mummy movie but hasn't gotten the call. Yes, it was stated that because his charachter in China wouldn't make too much sense.

I do like the fact it will be in China.

I liked the movies but they were a bit "schmaltzy". The charachters were not convincing enough for me. It was like....they were acting. Thankfully the storyline was very good and CGI was great.

The first movie I didn't like how RW played her character. She was better in the second movie. I hope they bring them all back though because it just won't be the same even if the replacements are not obviously acting.

The First One is one of my favourite action/addventure films. Just great fun, and when I saw it initially when I was 11, it scared the crap out of me.

The second was alright, but that kid should have been shot.

I'm game as long as you get Fraser, Weisz (at least) and then John Hannah.
Then I'd be sold.

And Millar and Gouth seem to deal with mythology well. Smallville being the prime example.
