Someone's Seen the First 28 Minutes of "28 Weeks"
by Scott Weinberg | March 23, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Ugh, this is one of those stories I can only read/report with just one eye. I mean, one of the Dread Central guys saw the first half-hour of "28 Weeks Later," and he wants to tell us about it! Nothing personal, but no thanks!

Here's a snip: "So what’s the verdict? Well, all notions of this being some contrived studio cash-in were dashed within the opening minutes. Boyle and Garland are obviously going to great lengths to make sure this film is a mature follow-up rather than collect their "executive producer" paychecks, and it looks like they’ve found a great successor in director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo."

OK, that's all I need to hear.

Later on in the article it looks like we get some plot descriptions, but even as a guy who was on the set of this movie, I don't want to read anything that might ruin my enjoyment of discovering the flick on my own. I'm weird that way. Especially where horror/sci-fi movies are concerned. And especially when they're sequels to movies I really love.

But don't let me stop you!

I really should check out 28 Days Later, or whatever the original is called.

28 Days Later was movie that was well below average in my eyes. After the first half-hour, there are VERY FEW scares, and the plot just goes in a weird, and sometimes just stupid, direction. I may rent 28 Weeks Later though.

I loved 28 Days Later, so I'm very happy that the first person to see the new one thought that it wasn't a studio cash in movie but very good. I can hardly wait.

Like it or not, 28DL brought fresh life back into the dead (no pun intended) genre of zombie movies. It renewed interest and presented a zombie world in a new, fresh way. It was thought provoking and intelligent. Not your average horror movie, and it hardly needed a jolt every 5 minutes to make up for a lacking plot. It had a great story, was well executed, and well acted. All for a minimal budget. Is it perfect, no way. But definitely above average.

I am curious to see what's next in the world of 28 Days...

28 Days Later was an excellent, artistic and intense film. The acting was superb, the score terrifying and the pacing perfect. The only things I could have asked for differently would be more gore and not quite as dark a print (in photographic terms of course is what I mean). But, judging from the preview, this looks like it's got more gore (the exploding head anyone?) and it's got yet another first rate actor (Carlye).
