Scorsese and DiCaprio, Together Again for the Fourth Time
by Jen Yamato | March 26, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
It's a hectic time for both Leonardo DiCaprio and his own personal svengali, Martin Scorsese; though both are currently super busy, movie-making bees, they'll make time (sometime) to reunite with the based-on-true-story "Wolf of Wall Street."

DiCaprio will star as Jordan Belfort, a stockbroker involved in a corporate banking corruption case with ties to the mob. The script will come courtesy of Terence Winter ("The Sopranos") and is to be based on Belfort's tell-all autobiography of the same name.

What, you haven't heard of the book? That's because it won't be on display at your local bookstore until September.

Official deals have yet to be finalized for either DiCaprio or Scorsese, although DiCaprio's own Appian Way will produce the pic for Warner Bros.

Variety likens the story to another DiCaprio success, "Catch Me If You Can": "'Wolf' would be a two-hander with a key part for a second star: Much of the film would hinge on Belfort's relationship with the FBI agent who tried to make him an informant."

Meanwhile, both "Departed" fellas have their respective datebooks full, and not just with the oft-rumored "Departed" sequel talk. Scorsese's got a handful of prospective directing gigs on the horizon, including a Rolling Stones music documentary; the religious-themed "Silence," set in feudal Japan; a William Monahan-penned rock 'n roll epic; and the historical adaptation "The Long Play."

DiCaprio himself is looking at the Stephen Gaghan-helmed "Blink"; the Kate Winslet co-starring "Revolutionary Road"; and an adaptation of Robert Ludlum's "The Chancellor Manuscript," which sounds like DiCaprio's best shot at a Jason Bourne-type action role.

What ever happened to the Alexander the Great movie they were supposed to be doing? I'd like to see that story done right instead of leaving it with the Oliver Stone Crap-a-thon

I guess I'm in the minority when I say I was bored to tears by all those films. So much hype behind them, but when they're over I'm left asking "that's it?"

The Departed was this year's Crash, IMO, and I'll be skipping this new project.

I hope Scorcese dies, haha.

Just kidding.

Dicaprio has a lot of haters, but the boy has acting chops. That's for sure. Ironically, probably the worst thing that happened to him was Titanic. He never wanted to be a heart throb, so it took him in completely the wrong direction and it made a lot of people hate him.. At least in Bllood Diamond he stops looking like a boy and more of a man.

How many other acotrs have starred in movies by James Cameron, Steven Speilberg and Martin Scorsese?

Used the hate the kid, but I've developed some admiration for his acting abilities over his last couple of flicks.

Based on their track record it looks like their movies keep on getting better. Even though I did like Gangs of New York a little bit better after seeing The Departed. While it is one of his weakest roles, Dicaprio just looked a little bit more authentic in the role for some reason after seeing him act in The Departed.

Can't complain at all! The duo has made great movies. It seems like a match made in heaven....Ok that sounded very gay =P but you get my point ;)

I'm becoming a big fan of Leo. I enjoy almost all of his movies, except for the absolutely horrible Gangs of New York.

Marty should use De Niro and Pesci in this one if possible.

I think that Scorsese should use somebody new... Everyone he uses ultimately becomes a top quality actor. It's always fun to see the same guys working together again though.

Gangs of New York was not horrible regardless if you like it or not. Norbit is an example of horrible. Do people always have to use hyperbole when expressing an opinion?

Scorsese and DiCaprio, Together Again for the Four
Gangs of New York * * 1/2, The Aviator * * * *, The Departed * * * *

Each film has been better than the last. Gangs was uneven, but sometimes impressive, so it's their weakest teaming.

Scorsese and De Niro last worked together on Casino in 1995! After a run of 7 films, they just stopped collaborating. De Niro went on to make mostly mid-level comedies and a few disappointing thrillers. His last film, The Good Shepherd, was interesting but not particularly good (it did feature one scene with Joe Pesci).

So I would like to see them re-unite before too many years pass. I mean let's not wait 20 years guys! It's been 12 already. De Niro and DiCaprio have worked together twice as well, on This Boys Life (1993) and Marvin's Room (1996).
