Anderson Still Attached to "Castlevania"; New Line to Keep Freddy Dead (For Now)
by Jeff Giles | March 29, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

The Internets have been abuzz with talk of director Paul W.S. Anderson abandoning the upcoming "Castlevania" for "Death Race," but as Anderson himself tells IGN Movies, there's a reason they're called "rumors" and not "facts." Back to Article

Oh, dear
Paul W.S. Anderson says he is "passionate about Castlevania." That is probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard. How can he expect to be taken seriously? Movies based on video games just don't work. Plain and simple. Why can't Hollywood learn from their mistakes?

My opinion of Anderson still stands. Let him direct the movie all he wants, he's not that bad of an action film maker...just don't let him write the script! He only knows how to write characters who have as much personality as a cereal box, and his stories always feel extremely rushed. And his dialogue....well, let's go to Resident Evil: Apocalypse. "We're expendable assets, and we've just been expended."

Let's see where he's going with this.
The Dracula Begins comment leads me to think he's shooting for a vampire pic rather than a straight adaptation of a game. If that's the case, he has a lot to work with and plenty to be excited over.

And as far as movies made off of video games go, I don't think that a game necessarily dooms (no pun intended) a movie. The Tomb Raider film, while not good, didn't seem hurt by having been a game first. Again not good, it is better than many other action films (the first one anyway). A filmmaker just needs the wherewithal to think outside the game a bit. Starting with Castlevania as a base and then moving out into vampire lore is...

What am I saying? You're right. It's going to be awful.

Death Race 2000 is so cool! anyone seen it, it would be a very cool movie if done right. This guy sounds like the kind of guy that will fuck it up royally though!
