Queen Latifah to Star in "All of Me" Remake
Anyone remember a funny old comedy from 1984 called "All of Me"? Steve Martin found himself half-possessed by the ghost of Lily Tomlin? (I actually love this movie.) Anyway, someone's doing a remake and Queen Latifah is going to star.
Adam Shankman, a frequent Latifah collaborator, will be on board to produce (and maybe direct?) Brent Goldberg and David Wagner were hired to pen the adaptation back when it was supposed to be a vehicle for Wanda Sykes, but it belongs to the Queen now. This'll be the third time Latifah and Shankman make a movie together. They did "Bringing Down the House" together, as well as this summer's "Hairspray."
Apparently the remake will take place in the world of politics, with liberal Latifah's bod being partially possessed by a conservative type. So it'll be a supernatural political comedy. You don't see many of those.

smartmoviekid writes: on Apr 27 2007 12:57 PM whoa whoa what BACK UP!! Latifah is actually a fine actress its just that shes been in a bit of a slump of bad films lately, like "taxi". i guess nobody saw her terrific perfomance as an HIV-positive woman in HBO's "Life Support" or her oscar-nominated performance in "Chicago" (everyone was looking at Zeta-Jones, Zellweger, and Gere lol). yes she has been in some awful movies, occasionally putting in some bad perfomances as well but overall shes a very good actress shes just in a big screen funk. maybe this remake can actually help her out (maybe. u never know with remakes) (Reply to this) |

I can't believe I am actually spending time hating on her but I feel so strongly about it. She stinks. I mean spoiled milk stink after sitting in a closed container in the hot sun for a few weeks. How did she get where she is today? If I had to pick one person in Hollywood or films (or music) today that has no business there it would be her. (Reply to this) |

cinemascribe writes: on Dec 05 2008 01:34 AM A few years back, Hollywood decided to remake the 1978 Warren Beatty classic "Heaven Can Wait" (itself a remake) as a vehicle starring Chris Rock titled "Down to earth." They failed. None of the charm or good humor inherent in Beatty's version of the story was evident. I mention this because "All of Me" (which was NOT a remake) has a comedic style similar to that of "Heaven Can Wait" and-like that film- stands on it's own merits decades later. It requires no update. Not everything needs to be modernized, gender/race transposed and made palatbale for the 21st century "cult of celebrity" adherents. This is a monumentally bad idea. In fact, this may be the worst idea for a remake I've heard since it was annoucned Gus van sant was tackling "Psycho." Thsi isn't a pitch- it's a blueprint for failure. The new "Allof Me" will not work because they will never achieve with Queen Latifah (whom I have at times admired as an actress) the extraordinary chemistry between greats like Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin. No way, man. Just like Chris Rock - one of the funniest men on the planet- couldn't save "Down to Earth". The role is a bad fit. Does adding a miscast Latifah and a completely awkward subplot about politics into the mix sound like a formula for recapturing the magic of the original? If anyone is thinking "yes" ,then I submit that you need to go back and watch some of the great comedies for an education in what makes a film truly funny. (Reply to this) |
