on May 02 2007 12:37 PM Umm, didn't we see this already. you know, when it was called Samurai Jack? im kidding of course, but isn't there anyone else the could have possibly given this project to. anyone at all? (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 02 2007 12:59 PM i thought i read somewhere that frank miller was never gonna allow other people to direct his stuff anymore...but even if that was false, WB needs new director...like someone said there are loads of better choices out there than this guy (Reply to this) |

on May 02 2007 01:35 PM Regardless of the director, I just don't think that the blue-screen/CGI background route is the right one for Ronin. Just because it's Miller doesn't mean that they should adapt it in the same way that Sin City and 300 were done. Ronin is very different from either of those books and should be handled in a way that is more appropriate to the material. (Reply to this) |

on May 02 2007 02:03 PM In reply to this comment (#863539)
Elaborate please. Exactly how did he screw up 300? Story additions aside (which were the script's responsibility) I thought he did an exellent job adapting the novel to screen. Not to mention his Dawn of the Dead was one of the better recent remakes.
Dawn of the Dead was good, but I was pretty disappointed in 300, honestly. Great trailer, dull movie. There was a man with a friggin' goat head playing a flute. Really. And someone actually said "freedom isn't free." With a straight face. Neither of those things were in the series, and both of those things suck. Right now Snyder is the last person I want to see tackle Watchmen. (Reply to this) |

on May 02 2007 02:26 PM Weren't the original Ninja Turtles books just spoofs on Ronin? (Reply to this) |

on May 02 2007 02:33 PM "What dey doin'?" "Dey STOMPIN' DA YARD! Where you frum?" ugh, what horrible pandering dreck. can we get a director whose most notable credit ISN'T Stomp the Yard? (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 02 2007 02:35 PM Makes me want to see 'I'll ALWAYS Know what you did Last Summer'. I'm seeing no reason as to why they picked this guy. Does he know anything about visual style? (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 02 2007 02:45 PM Hey RT! Could you please create a page where RT Users would be able to start petitions against stuff like this bull 'crap' director? I really believe you should look into this additional feature to your site. (Reply to this) |
|
on May 02 2007 05:34 PM First off, Tollins and AstroZombie - you can each suck a nut. Second, Ronin should be given to Sylvain Chomet (Writer/Director of The Triplets of Belville) and done as an (non-CGI) animated feature. THAT would be the way to go with this project. (Reply to this) |

on May 02 2007 11:13 PM Maybe Sylvain White had a really good presentation regarding the direction he wants to take this project, and won over the producers with that despite his track record. Because producers always make sure they take care of the quality of the movies, rather than hiring a director who'll work for free just to save some money... You can hold onto that hope at least until the trailer comes out. (Reply to this) |

on May 03 2007 04:55 AM In reply to this comment (#863553) Too many bad movies come out each year for us to take comfort in producers supposedly safeguarding quality. That may be how it works in theory, but in practice it doesn't always pan out. The only thing that stands a chance of redeeming this film at this point is a great script. (Reply to this) |

on May 03 2007 10:21 AM In reply to this comment (#863548) I read in Wizard a while back that the TMNT were spoofs off of Daredevil (where the ninja aspect came from; in Marvel, the evil ninja organization is "The Hand," in TMNT it's "The Foot") and X-Men (where the teenage aspect comes from). on May 03 2007 10:40 AM In reply to this comment (#863554) hmm, me wasn't actually serious about them ensuring quality you know. in fact they so flagrantly overlook that so often, you'd have to conclude they not only lack a sense of artistic integrity (i know that term is overused, but it's so conveniently obscure), but they also have rather poor business sense. maybe the problem stems from crappy movies turning in to huge hits every once in a while (bad boys 2, meet the fockers, fantastic 4, etc). gives the execs hope that insulting the intelligence of the general audience pays off, even though it usually doesn't. i think i just contradicted myself, but it still makes sense. on May 04 2007 07:26 AM In reply to this comment (#863557) Good point, Shadow. They just love insulting us. Especially with comic book movies. Because they're idiots, they expect that we're idiots too. But what they don't realize is that comics are pretty sophisticated mythologies, and their fans sophisticated thinkers of mythology. Like the old philosopher Greeks who sat around pondering their pantheon of gods. It's the historical equivalent, and too seldom is it realized. (Reply to this) |

on May 04 2007 07:38 AM seriously though I mean really though... why the hell would they take the intellectual property of a genious, and handing it to a two bit hack of a director like this guy. Really? I'm a little dumbfounded. at least snyder has some style as a director, but this guy? its like handing a picaso to a 3 year old holding a box of sharpies. (Reply to this) |

on May 04 2007 07:43 AM In reply to this comment (#863559) Yes yes. But what can we do, right? At least 300 was good. But what bothers me the most about this is I'd really hate to see Hollywood screw up what could be a great samurai film. (sigh) Guess we'll see soon enough. (Reply to this) |

on May 06 2007 10:48 AM Is Ronin playable in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance(Yes..... I love that game). Because if he isn't I don't know who he is. (Reply to this) |

on May 07 2007 07:32 AM Forgive me but I saw "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer." And I think I would most characterize it by saying...hilariously bad directing. Like really freakishly bad. Like he must be the son of some producer and this was his first gig and he story boarded most of it while in rehab. I'm being mean but honestly it wasn't just the bad script, crappy actors and small budget, the director was really bad. Although I do remember wanting to rent stomp the yard and watch it with a bunch of drunk friends. That would be funny. Good luck to you Ronin. Can't wait. (Reply to this) |
|
on May 07 2007 09:29 AM I don't think he's a horrible director. He's helmed bad scripts though. "I'll Always Know" was a lot better from a directing standpoint than its predessors, though its script was obviously the worst of the 3. (Reply to this) |
