Producer Gives A Brief Update on the "Superman Returns" Sequel
by Scott Weinberg | May 04, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Producer Jon Peters wants to remind us that Bryan Singer is actively moving forward on the "Superman Returns" sequel. Just a bit slowly is all.

Here's what producer Jon Peters had to say: "Bryan Singer is working on the story (for the sequel to SUPERMAN RETURNS), and hopefully, that will be a script by the end of the year. And hopefully, we'll be in preproduction by, say, January or February of next year."

So now you know. The producer also goes on to say that Mr. Singer is "brilliant," "sweet," and "like one of my kids." Which is really nice.

Let's hope, just like Bryan did with X-men, the sequel will be better.

Let's just hope it isn't overloaded with villians, like Spiderman 3...

Recast Lois
I good start to getting the next film better off the ground, would be to recast Lois Lane. The girl who was in the wrong was all wrong for the part, I don't know why Bryan Singer didn't see it. I watched one of the special feature, and it seemed they just gave up and settled on her. That did nothing for the film, she's more annoying than spunky, not self-assurred just cold. The guy playing Superman will grow into his role, you can see that in his performance, but she is a lost cause. Cut bait and start fresh.

Superman Returns was poorly executed, acted and written. The special effects were also not very good at all. I'm not excited about a sequel at all.

i agree...
I like Kate Bosworth, but her in that role was like Katie Holmes playing Rachel Dawes in Batman Begins. (besides the fact that i hate katie holmes and she can't act), Bosworth can act, she just wasn't right for the part. Everyone is completely ok with recasting Dawes and i don't think anyone would care if they recast Lane, which they should.

I thought Routh did a great job with superman... and the next movie will rule!

I've never fallen asleep at the movie theater before, but Superman Returns was the closest I have ever come. I definitely had some abnormally long blinks. Hopefully this sequel has some action.

I enjoyed Returns quite a bit. A different kind of movie, slower and more of a character study, but I thought it was good. I look forward to the sequel. I hope we'll see some Metallo or Brainiac.

I would have enjoyed Returns much more if it were not so close in narrative to the first movie.

I think Spiderman 3 was a little better than Returns, but that's just me. More villains would be appropriate for a Superman movie. In my opinion, that isn't what hurt SP3, it was the corn-factor

I think any Superman movie would be better than that crap they are passing off as Spiderman these days. At least Superman isn't corney. The latest Spiderman movie (outside of the action scenes) sucked, royally.

I totally agree, I felt like I was just watching a remake of the original Superman.

I think that the problem they had in casting Lois was mostly because they cast a young Superman. They very well couldn't put a mature 30 something Lois opposite Routh, wouldn't have looked right. IMO they really screwed up both of them, they should have gone with a pair of 30+yo people, it would have looked a lot more natural.

RottenTomatoes: Home of the bitter movie geeks who can't get over the fact that Spiderman 3 gets so much limelight.

I hope the sequel improves on Returns. Returns was....alright, in its own way. But it definitely needs more points of interest. I'm not some action-starved comic fan, but superhero movies need to at least remind us that there's actually something behind the heroes. Returns underdelivered very much in that regard.

Returns' problem was that it was too heavy on exposition and the little action there was in the film was contrived and uninteresting (aside from the spectacular plane rescue scene, of course).

comparing Spidey 3 to Returns is hard since both films have different flaws. Spidey 3 delivered action-wise, but too many characters and the need to tie the many storylines together made it feel cobbled together and some characters (coughVENOMcough) went underutilized.
