Wong Kar-Wai's "My Blueberry Nights" Opens 2007 Cannes Film Fest
The 2007 Cannes Film Festival is underway, with last year's jury president Wong Kar-Wai's latest, "My Blueberry Nights," kicking things off.
The elegiac "Blueberry," starring Norah Jones, Jude Law, and Natalie Portman, tells the story of a woman's journey across America after a rough breakup. Though uneven, it has a number of stunning moments, and features breathtaking cinematography characteristic of Wong's oeuvre. (Check back later for a review.)
In addition, Cannes is offering a number of high-profile premieres this year, including "Ocean's Thirteen," Michael Moore's latest muckraking doc "Sicko," and Michael Winterbottom's "A Mighty Heart," starring Angelina Jolie.

The "Ocean's" gang is in town for Cannes...
Stephen Frears ("The Queen," "High Fidelity") is the 2007 festival's jury president; the jury features such cinematic luminaries as Maggie Cheung, Sarah Polley, Toni Collette, and Michel Piccoli. The jury will decide which film will take home the Palme D'Or, awarded to the best movie in competition. They'll be choosing between such fare as David Fincher's "Zodiac," Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof" (an expanded version of his half of "Grindhouse"), the Coen Brothers' "No Country for Old Men," and Gus Van Sant's "Paranoid Park."

...and so are the girls from "Death Proof."
Throughout the festival, the Rotten Tomatoes crew will be filing reports on the biggest films, celebrity sightings, and anything else that captures the essence of the world's pre-eminent film festival.
