Indiana Jones and the Russians at Area 51?
A few new "Indiana Jones 4" tidbits are hitting the 'net lately, and most of 'em are pretty juicy indeed.
CHUD.com seems to be the exclusive outlet for the latest "Indy" scoops, and here's what they've been able to tell us:
1. Shia LaBeouf will be playing a '50s-style "greaser" kid, not unlike ... Fonzie? Only probably not as cool!
2. The opening scene will take place at the legendary "Area 51" and it's there that Dr. Jones will kick some Russian villain butt.
3. Apparently Indy and his son spend some adventure time together before they even realize they're related.
Interesting. Obviously some of these things may be altered or removed during the course of production, but the CHUD guys seem pretty confident with their sources in this case. If so, I've officially read all I want to read about "Indiana Jones 4" -- which looks like it might actually be called "Indiana Jones and the City of Gods."

MMacKK writes: on May 22 2007 12:40 AM I have no major issues with that. Its only logical that Dr Jones is 'immortal' now, and the 'City of Gods' sounds about right. I was opposed to this entry, (c'mon, 'LAST Crusade!) but Im being won around. (Reply to this) |

mbrocchi writes: on May 22 2007 01:26 AM I could be wrong but I am sensing that this movie is going to suck hard... I do think they are doing the right thing with the publicity though...Selling the fact that Spielberg is at the helm while keeping any mention of George Lucas's involvement to a minimum. ;) (Reply to this) |

dystopian future today writes: on May 22 2007 04:17 AM Yikes, 3 writers and they all suck. This movie has a 99.998% chance of sucking. Too bad, because Raiders was one of the finest movies ever made. I want to write a movie where the young George Lucas travels in time, kidnaps old George Lucas and then writes Indy 4 and rewrites SW ep 1-3. Oh, and I guess young Harrison Ford can come too. Don't worry George and Steve, you'll still get my money regardless of how badly you sully my childhood hero! (Reply to this) |

Merlin235 writes: on May 22 2007 08:03 AM Why is it we all look forward to The Dark Knight because of Nolan's involvement, but doubt Indiana Jones even though Spielberg is attached? I find that odd. This movie will rock, I have very few doubts about it. I mean, SPIELBERG! His only real crap-fest was A.I. and that was b/c he was trying to direct in Kubrick's style. This will be fine. Gimy writes: on May 22 2007 08:25 AM we look forward to batman because bale is the shiznit, its written and done WELL and has very few, if any...flaws. indy is like 70 years old and his dad is 135...its being made my speilberg, who is great, but lucas ALSO has a hand in it. old guy+older guy+smart guy + delirious guy...doesn't equal success. this is being made because lucas has nothing left and is begging for SOME sort of recognition that he doesn't completely suck. harrison is about dried up...and connery well...he's in the same boat. this WREAKS of desperation of almost everybody involved. Merlin235 writes: on May 22 2007 08:55 AM In reply to this comment (#866382) I'll have to disagree, which is fine. I agree that Bale is a great actor and Nolan a great director. But Spielberg is a great director, and Ford and Connery are basically film legends in their own right. Lucas was involved in the other three movies, and besides the second they turned out well. Personally, I think we're sheep. Whatever is hot, we're on that. It's in fashion to rip Spiderman 3? Then we're all ripping it. It's hot to be excited for TDK? Then we're all for it. Look at how much crap Transformers was getting until a magical little trailer, and now everyone is stoked for it. We're sheep. (Reply to this) |

Mattmovies writes: on May 22 2007 09:17 AM I actually liked A.I. Spielberg's crapfests are: 1941 and Hook. Others would throw many other films on that pile. Spielberg at his worst is sappy. There is some very intelligent criticism made of Schindler's List, most notably by Kubrick who said that Schindler's List was about 200 Jews that lived, the Holocaust was about 6 million Jews that died. Frank Darabont's script involved aliens. I think it would fit if you take the point of view of aliens being confused with angels and demons. Also throw in alien artifacts and such. There are interesting interpretations of aliens connected with occult studies that I think would work beautifully. (Reply to this) |

arendr writes: on May 22 2007 09:44 AM all i can say is that you guys are foolish to doubt one of the most proven teams in cinema history at such an early stage. if this were, say Brett Ratner teaming up with Uwe Boll, it might make more sense. (Reply to this) |

The Merm writes: on May 22 2007 09:53 AM In reply to this comment (#866381) I disagree Spielberg is wildly overrated and his only thought provoking (but not necissarilly good) film was AI BECAUSE he was directing a concept Kubrick came up with, why would people be sheep for looking forward to Dark Knight but not for believing the biggest exageration in film history, that Spielberg is a relevant director? arendr writes: on May 22 2007 10:27 AM In reply to this comment (#866386) i am by no means a Spielberg apologist. i have real problems with many of his films, as i think many of them are shallow and he tends to overexplain and leave little to the imagination. but to say he's over-rated? come on now. the man is an incredibly talented filmmaker. think about his generation of directors. of that group, how many can you say haven't really lost a step? Spielberg and Scorcese are really the only ones whose quality hasn't ever taken a very significant dip. (hopefully "Youth Without Youth" will bring Coppola's reputation back) and Munich is very thought provoking. it seems to me that Spielberg has matured recently. (Reply to this) |

StupidSmurf writes: on May 22 2007 10:37 AM For every Spielberg movie I love, I can point to one I loathed. And Lucas lost a lost of luster in my eyes after the introduction of Ewoks, as well as when I finally paused and listened hard to just how winceworthy his dialogue is. But I gotta say, I like the Area 51 and Russians thing. A lot. Think of it....it's the 1950's, right? Who's America's biggest enemies at the time? The Commies! What big craze began in the early 50's? UFO sightings! I dunno, it seems that by bringing those two things into the mix, they're getting the right feel of the decade. It could still tank, mind you. But I'm just saying there's a good possibility of it working as well. Provided Lucas doesn't write dialogue. (Reply to this) |

dracus writes: on May 22 2007 10:37 AM In reply to this comment (#866379) Then why don't you and others like you do just that and leave this one to everyone else who is looking forward to it? Christ knows we get the point, you and others like you don't like Jar Jar. So do the rest of us a favour; stop whining like spoiled little girls and move on to other movies if you don't like what Lucas has done or is doing. (Reply to this) |

Merlin235 writes: on May 22 2007 11:32 AM In reply to this comment (#866386) It's not that people are sheep for looking forward to TDK (heck I am too), it's that us fanboys have a tendancy to jump on a bandwagon and ride that horse to death. It's in everything we react to. Hate towards Bay, love towards Bay after one good trailer. Love towards Raimi ("in Raimi we trust" is a phrase I've often read), hate towards him after Spiderman 3. Hate towards Uwe Boll....uh, more hate towards Uwe Boll. The most obvious one now, in my opinion, is our love of everything Batman. Nolan can't do wrong by fanboys, until of course the movie comes out. Then there will be those that absolutely hated it, and those that loved it, and this forum will be full of flame wars between the two. It's just how fanboys roll, I suppose. (Reply to this) |

arendr writes: on May 22 2007 11:44 AM In reply to this comment (#866393) i personally don't consider myself a fanboy because the movies that people go nuts about on this board (300, Spiderman, etc.) usually don't do much for me. But everytime I see a Nolan film I expect it to be the one that sucks. And everytime I'm floored. But wait a minute. Aren't we talking about Indiana Jones here? (Reply to this) |
