Damon Says Bye Bye to "Bourne"

You know how we keep hearing about the possibility of a "Spider-Man 4," a "Shrek 4," and a "Pirates 4"? Well, don't get ready for a "Bourne 4." (At least not one with Matt Damon in it.)

While sitting in on an "Ocean's 13" press event at Cannes, Matt Damon said that he's definitely done with the "Bourne" series. His exact quote, as a matter of fact, was "the Bourne thing I'm definitely done with," which is about as clear an answer as you can get.

He did, however, add that the series might continue with a different actor. Kinda like James Bond, I guess. But considering how much money "The Bourne Identity" and "The Bourne Supremacy" made, I'm betting the producers will throw a few offers his way -- just to be safe.

I just did a quick Amazon search and also found "The Bourne Legacy" and "The Bourne Betrayal," though neither was written by Ludlum. I guess some other guy has taken over.

The Bourne series shouldn't be on-going, it makes for a good trilogy as is. Leave it at that. Besides, the whole point of the story is that he's done with being a spy, he needs closure. Give the man some CLOSURE DAMMIT!!!

quit while you're ahead. Looking forward to Ultimatum...it has a definite story arc and needs this third and final act. But look how many franchises fail when it comes to part 3.

Other than the titles and basic story idea, the movies have very little in common with the books. A trilogy works here. The concept of Bourne is not suited for an ongoing franchise.

two things. one, duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude this sucks! this, TO ME, is better than the new bond series even though i liked that as well.

two, ANYTIME an actor says flat out" no, i'm not returning"...that usually means the last movie was done badly or they were going through the motions while filming. i hope thats not the case because this is one of the best action series out right now.

by the way, you can have 100 movies in a franchise...IF the writing is there and the ideas are fresh. nothing is dead after 3 movies, you can always do more. its just a matter of keeping things fresh

and stop the freakin' shaky camera! One of the reasons Identity was so good was because of the hand-to-hand combat scenes. In Supremacy I couldn't tell what in the heck was going on!

The writing, acting, and pacing was every bit as good in Supremacy as it was in Identity. Unfortunately, it should have been called "The Bourne Nausea" with all the shaky camera work.

Matt Damon's movies are always solid, but they never get me excited over anything. there hasnt been a matt damon movie where i say to myself "i neeeeeed to see that". the bourne movies are the epitome of this. i'll see them, but only because i probably have nothing better to do that day, and they are well made movies, but i'd never stand in line to see them.

I know they did the Bourne Legacy with Eric Ludebaster(sp) taking over and writing from Ludlums notes. I'd actually like to see them do a movie like the Bourne Supremacy book which was absolutely nothing like the movie of the same name.

Someone mentioned part threes failing. There sure has been a lot of that. Pirates 3, Spiderman 3, Shrek 3...it's not like even those were bad movies. It's just that the first two of each series (other than maybe Pirates) was way better. I'm hoping Bourne #3 doesn't continue the trend.

ha ha even though Matt Damon isn't really an actor that i like and i am not a huge fan of the "Jason Bourne" series........... i will say "good job man"............. so the first film was not bad but not really the style of movie that i like but i will admit that i enjoyed some moments of the film........... the second film was boring as hell and i only watched it one (falling asleep throughout most of it) but i will probably see this one just because i try to watch all the new movies that i possibly can during summer.

I love this series. Well, more specifically, I love what Paul Greengrass did with Supremacy (and give it a *rest*, shaky-cam whiners) - so the fact that he's taking another stab at Ultimatum makes me a very happy woman. But I know, being an Oscar-nommed director and all now, he's probably going to move onto other things too after this... so all the more reason for them to call it and trilogy and leave it at that.
