Another "Hercules" Flick?
Anyone out there ever seen the Lou Ferrigno "Hercules" movies? Hilarious stuff. Anyway, Millennium Films is planning to bring the character back to the big screen. Again.
Sean Hood, screenwriter of "The Watcher," "Halloween: Resurrection," and "The Crow: Wicked Prayer," will pen the new "Hercules" adventure for Millennium / Nu Image producer Avi Lerner. No word yet on who'll be directing.
This project is in no way related the 1957 version, the Kevin Sorbo TV series, or Disney's (very underrated) flick of the same name. But, like Variety says, it was probably conceived with visions of "300" dancing through the producers' heads. (Plus you don't have to pay anyone to use the name "Hercules.")

on Jun 01 2007 06:15 AM Do studios look for screenwriters that pretty much promise a movie will suck. Did they check out this writers list of credits??? "The Watcher":horrible and recieved a 12%, Holloween:Ressurrection: Horrible-11%, The Crow:Wicked Prayer- I'll never watch it-recieved a solid 0% Can't wait to find out who the director will be (Reply to this) |

on Jun 01 2007 07:23 AM In reply to this comment (#867487) Oooo - I hope it's Michael Bay. Then we can watch Hercules blow stuff up over and over and over and over and over and over and over. That would rock. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Jun 01 2007 08:02 AM Kevin Sorbo is the only actor with the credentials to play "Hercules in Space", which is clearly the direction this film has to be taken in to prevent it from complete and utter failure. Chuck Norris should be Zeus. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 01 2007 10:05 AM Has anyone seen "Kull the Conqueror"? Now that is painful. Also, "Scorpion King" anyone? No? I didn't think so. Now, let us envision a Hercules with Gore Verbinski as the director, Spielberg as the producer, special effects done by ILM, and staring and a pumped Christian Bale in the title role. (he has proven he can totally commit to any character, The Machinist, and he doesnt' have to be a Hulk type. remember the gods were perfect not body-builders) Combine all that and what do you have...? The most expensive movie ever made; but Man That Would Be Awsome. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 01 2007 10:07 AM I'd like to see this as a live action version of that crappy cartoon from the 60's. with his little pal, what was his name? pan? or something. "Herc! Herc! it's daedelus! daedelus!" (Reply to this) |

on Jun 01 2007 10:40 AM hallarian, there's NO way bale would come close to thinking of trying to remotely come close to the desperation...of touching this role. although i agree he's THE most dedicated actor in the game today. machinist was proof of that. tommy hanks got AAAALL this credit for losing like 60 or 70 lbs for his role in Castaway(which was, basically...crap) and this guy loses MORE weight...then in a matter of months has to gain 100 pounds of MUSCLE to play batman?? ridiculous. if they wanted to make it like 300...i'd be all over that. but odds are, they'll cast some guy from the WWE who can barely speak english(there's like 5 of em, choose one) and it'll be dumb action like the scorpion king or even better, the marine. straight to dvd... ![]() on Jun 01 2007 11:41 AM I bought that Lou Ferrigno double dvd set! Hilarious! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves doing their own MST3K. I bought it to take over to some friends' house to blast. It is one of the funniest movies ever. The best is Lou fighting a bear that cross cuts between old nature show footage of a bear at a distance and then Lou fighting a man in a suit up close, haha, classic. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 01 2007 12:24 PM In reply to this comment (#867495) Alright maybe I jumped the gun on Bale, but that is only because I don't want some idiot from WWE to come in and totally take away any form what could be a beautifully acted visual experience. There has yet to be a decient Roman/Greek mythology tale on film. Troy was made to be realistic and Clash of the Titans was camp at best. I want a truly epic film that will shove a thunder bolt up the ass of any mytholgy that has come before! But 300 does (in my mind) come pretty close to perfection (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jun 01 2007 01:24 PM People will never stop making stupid movies because they have visions of powerful supermen glittering in their eyes. This is another one of those cases. And this movie will suck. It isn't being made for the right reasons, and will therefore not have any heart. No heart = no quality. A producer or director has to believe in what he is making, not just get a hokey inspiration from "300." Crash and burn, Herc, crash and burn. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 01 2007 06:51 PM I liked The Watcher. And I can't believe someone called Castaway crap. That was a great movie. People praising the garbage that was 300 is what I don't understand. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 01 2007 08:50 PM I actually think this could be a good idea if cast right and with a well written story. It should definitely be a reboot - as opposed to including anything that has been done before. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 02 2007 04:11 AM In reply to this comment (#867500) Good call on the Castaway/300 comparison. 300 took one of the greatest singular events in history and was watchable to good. Castaway did the same thing with 2 1/2 hours of Tom Hanks doing dialog with a soccer ball. Castaway is by far the bigger accomplishment. Same thing with the Hanks/Bale comparison. Not to knock either of those guys cause I think they're both fantastic, but before Batman Bale was an up and coming actor trying to establish himself as a star while when Hanks made Castaway he was coming off of Oscar wins for best actor and was pretty much the most marketable star in Hollywood with a long string of successful blockbusters. That's probably the reason Hanks got more props. I'd take this opportunity though to give Bale props for being successful and for all intents and purposes becoming the new Tom Hanks i.e. the guy who can do no wrong at this time. Let's just hope he doesn't try to change his hair for a role like Hanks cause that's obviously the death nell to your career :) (Reply to this) |

on Jun 03 2007 03:06 PM I was kinda hoping it was a sequel to "Hercules in New York"... It could be Arnold Schwarzenegger in California! "Hercules in California"... And he could also wrestle a bear in this one! Does Lou Ferrigno also fight a bear in his "Hercules" movie? Man, talk about originality! "As Hercules, the son of ZEUS, I command that everything I say, shall be accepted as truth! Anyone who defies me, is a girlie-man! And if you're a girl, you're a girlie-girl! And if you're a girl, who resembles a man, then you are a manly-girl! Hercules has spoken" Academy Award shit right there. (Reply to this) |
