Rachel Weisz to Star in Peter Jackson's "Lovely Bones
by Scott Weinberg | June 13, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Remember when everyone was wondering why Rachel Weisz declined to be in the third "Mummy" movie? Here's why.

Peter Jackson's been planning to turn Alice Sebold's "The Lovely Bones" into a movie for quite some time now, and it looks like he's going to start shooting in October. Variety reports that Oscar winner Rachel Weisz has signed on to star in the DreamWorks / Paramount production.

Ms. Weisz is best known for her work in "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns," but she did win that Oscar for "The Constant Gardener." She can also be seen in "Enemy at the Gates," "About a Boy," "Constantine," and "The Fountain."

I can dig it, but in a weird statement from a heterosexual man I hope she doesn't have a sex scene in this. Seriously it's like watching corky from Life Goes On trying to have sex when Ms Weisz gets busy on camera.

Actually, no, it's more of a fantasy drama about a 14-year-old girl who is raped and murdered and watches from heaven as her family tries to make sense of the tragedy and also as the police try to find her killer. It's more along the lines of Jackson's "Heavenly Creatures." It's a wonderful book and if anyone can pull off the realism/fantasy blend, it will be Peter.

I'll be interested in seeing another Peter Jackson movie. Haven't really made up my mind about whether I like him beyond the LOTRs movies.

Oh don't get me wrong she's gorgeous, but after seeing her sex scenes in Enemy at the Gates and I Want You she just looks mentally deficient mid-coitus in both those movies. It's very odd. Watch them, you've never seen someone who looks more uncomfortable having sex or pretending to have sex as the case may be.

Haven't seen I Want You, but wasn't the scene in Enemy at the Gates meant to be sort of uncomfortable? They were doing it around a bunch of other people and they had to be silent.

But hey, as men we become pretty mentally deficient during sex. It's hard to use mental powers when performing, so maybe she shares the same affliction.

And sorry abou this conversation Mr. Aronofsky, if you're reading this. She's lovely.

Lovely Bones would have been the perfect story for Stanley Kubrick to turn into a movie if he was still alive. However since he's not, I think that Peter Jackson is the only other director with the vision to take it on and having Rachel Weisz on board means the cast is off to a great start. I’m looking forward to seeing who Jackson picks to play the 14 year old. If she was old enough, Lovely Bones could have been Dakota Fanning's Taxi Driver because that role definitely needs a young actress with her confidence and ability.

Jackson and Weisz are amazing, I never have read the book, but this sounds very promising.

Read the book!
For all you who have said they have not read the book - READ IT. It is an amazing piece of fiction. It's a bit Oprah (I think it was on her book list in fact) but don't let that scare you away. After you read it you will see that Jackson is a perfect fit for this adaptation. And if you have not seen Heavenly Creatures, what the hell are you doing on RT? :-)

And Rachel Wiesz is hotness on a stick. Prrrr...

Man I just don't know if I can watch this. I started reading "Lucky" by Sebold, and I just couldn't get through it. Not that it isn't well written, it's just that rape is an INCREDIBLY uncomfortable subject for me, which is weird since no one I know has been raped. Any time I hear about rape it just kind of puts me into crazed vigilante mode.

Nice! This gives me hope that the movie may do the book justice.

And this has what to do with Lovely Bones? Oh, I get it, this is your way of sneaking in the fact that you don't like Jackson! Gee, aren't you the clever one!

Stick to Barney and Mister Rogers bub, because you're in grownup company here.

I thought King Kong was a good movie. It had one of the greatest action suspense sequences ever to appear in a film.. Girl being chased by T-Rex's...
Awesome.

Overall it was a decent film. Peter Jackson still remains one of those directors that I get excited about when I hear they are involved with a film.

Egads, man, have a little respect. Women get treated like shit on forums, and the sheer volume of misoganystic comments on these forums in particular are just plain disturbing. You remind me of those dumbass frat boys that made their way into the Borat movie.

Instead of "she's a bad actress", there's always crap like "I can't watch this movie, that chick has a face like a septic tank"... Word to all intended recipients... grow up.
