Looks Like that "Silver Surfer" Spinoff is Coming
Oh, c'mon. Like you couldn't see this one coming.
According to the L.A. Times, writer J. Michael Straczynski will be working on the "Silver Surfer" spinoff, which is meant to be a bit darker than the PG-rated "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer."
If the project moves forward, this writer seems like a perfect pick. In addition to his extensive TV work ("Babylon 5," "The Twilight Zone"), Mr. Straczynski also penned several issues of comic books like Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Silver Surfer, and Thor.

I'm sure he won't be the only writer on the project, but I guess we should expect to see a lot more of the Silver Surfer in the coming years.

Thundaar writes: on Jun 14 2007 06:43 AM J. Michael Straczynski has some skill with episodic TV scripting. I'm not sure how this talent will translate to the big screen. I've always liked his stuff so it sounds encouraging. (Reply to this) |

moviemann45 writes: on Jun 14 2007 08:08 AM Since Marvel already knows that ROTSS is gonna be a blockbuster masterpeice, they ALREADY wanna work on a cash-in........see, a sign of desperation is doing things in the wrong order. Wait for the movie to be released, watch the money pour in, and THEN work on another project......but the Silver Surfer IS cooler than any of the Fantastic Four COMBINED so I would go see a movie about him.... Vitamin M writes: on Jun 14 2007 09:00 AM I hope they keep doing this with the FF, introduce a much more interesting character in a FF film and then spin that character off, meanwhile the FF just continue to seem like a bunch of worhtless dorks who don't even get to be the stars of their own films. that would be great. Next up Namor can kick their asses! (Reply to this) |

Mr. Kong writes: on Jun 14 2007 10:59 AM They should've come out with a Silver Surfer movie and THEN come out with ROTSS. Silver Surfer is to cool a character to recieve just a "spin-off" treatment. Didn't he have his own comics? (Reply to this) |

oldnoakes writes: on Jun 14 2007 11:13 AM In reply to this comment (#869393) SS did have his own comic, but it wasn't quite as popular as other Marvel comics. Which isn't to say he doesn't have a fan following. Even if FF 2 sucks, I would definitely go see SS in his own movie, especially if it doesn't have a lot of ties to FF2. Hopefully this production staff will know what the Hell they are doing! (Reply to this) |

Shatter24 writes: on Jun 14 2007 12:42 PM Let's not diss Fantastic Four 2 until we see the movie. The first one was pretty good, passive fans liked it; its just the hardcore ones (who post about this stuff), that had problems with Dr. Doom's portrayal. I'm sure DD will appear in a more familiar guise in this episode, so relax fanbase. (Reply to this) |

Matanuki writes: on Jun 14 2007 01:00 PM In reply to this comment (#869388) Well up next, reportedly, is Black Panther. Bring on the African Batman! I'm all for Fantastic Four being a sacrificial lamb to host the intro of far more interesting characters. So yep, Black Panther, Namor, good deal. Let the kids enjoy the campy foursome, give us adults spin offs of the others. (Reply to this) |
