Wolverine Still Beats Magneto to Film
Marvel has hired David Goyer to bring their "Magneto" spinoff to life, but they are still putting their eggs in Wolverine's basket for the first "X-Men" solo film. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige gave us the update while hanging out on the "Iron Man" set.
"I think Wolverine will be released first," said Feige. "We've not signed the director. Fox has not signed a director yet. There are a lot of people in the mix. It's hard. I think it's very close. I thought that for four or five weeks now."

Whenever "Magneto" gets to come out, Feige feels it's perfectly suited for Goyer's traditionally dark takes on comic books. "Well, if anyone knows Magneto's history or remembers the first scene in X-Men 1, it's not the lightest story. So Magento certainly will have elements that I think are well suited for Goyer's tastes."

on Jun 21 2007 08:41 AM This is big news! It's on the same level as the article I read earlier entitled "Yes A still comes before B in alaphabet!" Here's to hoping that they realize Wolverine is actually a fairly dark character too. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 21 2007 08:52 AM Yeah they should have Goyer direct Wolverine if he likes to do dark adaptations... and It wouldn't really be dark compared to wolverines actual story. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jun 21 2007 09:00 AM Whew! Man, now I know this movie is going to be good. If Magneto would've came out first, this was going to suck. Who cares about whom directs it now, it's going to come out before Magneto people! (Reply to this) |

on Jun 21 2007 09:05 AM does anybody else wonder why exactly magneto is getting his own movie? a young magneto idea sounds like a young indiana jones movie. TERRIBLE. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 21 2007 09:15 AM I hope Wolverine is meaner in this one. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 21 2007 10:50 AM blank blank...sounds like a great party game...but have no idea bra. magneto is about the last person i'd want to have a spin off, well..besides halle berry's Storm. wolverine's movie will completely demolish it...ESPECIALLY if they use another actor to play the role, which they'll have to(unless they cgi his face like they did in X-3). i just keep picturing it'll be like a Hannibal Rising type of crapfest. on Jun 21 2007 11:05 AM In reply to this comment (#870429) There's a challenge in a game called Scene It that is like that. That's all the help I can give. On the Wolverine news, the only reason they are doing his solo film first is because he is a bigger character and they probably want to see how it will do in theaters before making "Magneto"(which by the way, I'm looking forward to so much more). on Jun 21 2007 11:06 AM Hopefully they'll base the Wolverine movie off of the Origin storylines. That'd be interesting to see put on film. It would really give everyone a different take on Wolverine in the X-Men movies. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 21 2007 11:11 AM they got to do the weapon x history. if they start off in 1894 and stuff when he has bone claws, i wouldnt be too interested in that. it would be completely awesome to see a momento-style superhero movie, but hollywood doesnt have the balls for that. this all depends on the director that they hire. hopefully they steer clear of hacks. thanks for the info fellas (Reply to this) |

on Jun 21 2007 11:51 AM I think the Magneto film has a lot more potential than people are giving it credit for. I think if they come at it from a Holocaust survivor/Character piece like The Last King of Scotland or something and sorta downplay the comics action portion it could be a really good movie. Now if they do Mutant kid runs amok in Auswitz and becomes meglomaniac it'll be worthless. I think with Magneto they have a potential to transcend the comics genre and just make a really good movie that happens to have a mutant in it. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jun 21 2007 12:36 PM In reply to this comment (#870435) I agree about Magneto. People have to remember it will have a free-walking Charles Xavier in it at some point, and I'm sure the two of them will fight somebody big. Might be interesting. As for Wolvie, wouldn't it be a kick if they did it about Havok and Wolverine: Meltdown? Anyone remember that? Didn't think so. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jun 21 2007 04:04 PM In reply to this comment (#870434) It would be really hard to do a movie with so many flash backs to the late 1800's and what not. Maybe one quick flash, because it would be cool to see him with bone claws. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 21 2007 05:05 PM The Magneto film doesn't sound interesting. And yes it has potential, but look who is making it, the same guy who did The Invisible. (Reply to this) |

on Jun 21 2007 07:26 PM I predict mediocrity at best. What I wouldn't give to see a "hard" R Wolverine in Sin City or 300 style :( (Reply to this) |

on Jun 22 2007 03:10 AM In reply to this comment (#870426) Wolverine 4 I've kind of had enough of Wolverine in the X-men already. He has become almost the central character. I think Wolverine will follow in the steps of X-men 3 and Van Helsing. Sorry for being a grammar Nazi; it is just a pet peeve of mine. Really sorry: "Who cares about *who* directs it now." You never use "whom" when what it stands for is a subject, only a direct or indirect object. If you do not know how to use it properly, just use "who" to be safe. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jun 22 2007 06:25 AM That's ok, I admit that my grammer skills are below average. I'm actually glad that you reminded me about that. I've been confused before on where to use 'whom'. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jun 22 2007 09:37 AM In reply to this comment (#870440) rated r is definitely the way to go. its wolverine dude, not spiderman or capitan america. but we all know little kids will fuel the fire to what really matters. advertising. and they should keep hugh. (Reply to this) |
