Universal to Deliver Biopic About the World's Biggest "Playboy"
by Scott Weinberg | June 25, 2007
Discuss Article
And you'll never guess who they got to direct the flick...

Yes, Brett Ratner will direct "Playboy" for Universal Pictures and Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment. Ratner was so psyched about landing the gig that he sent Grazer an old "Playboy" pinball machine. Neat.

The film will cover the life and (very) colorful escapades of Playboy Magazine king Hugh Hefner. The 81-year-old magazine tycoon recently approved a script by John Hoffman, and Grazer chose Ratner to direct the thing ... but only after Oliver Stone passed to do a war movie called "Jawbreaker."

It's unsure as to when "Playboy" will go into production, because Ratner also has a heist flick on the back burner. According to Variety, "Ratner and Grazer have Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock attached and hope to enlist Chris Tucker, Dave Chappelle, Jamie Foxx, Denzel Washington and Sidney Poitier."

Obviously Ratner also has "Rush Hour 3" coming next month. His other movies include "Rush Hour," "Money Talks," and "X-Men: The Last Stand."

Huh, could be interesting, I'll see it. I'd like to hear some more about Stone's Jawbreaker though which I already completely want to see after just that one sentence.

Are you kidding me? Freaking Hugh Hefner, it's not like it's a mysterious story, he's been all over the media for 50 years. This sounds like such a gag, especially the fact that Ratner who flips super-models left and right is behind it, at least we know that pedigree is there and to avoid behind this already dumb sounding project, but what the hell is Brian Grazer doing with this?

Groan. Hugh Hefner is a creepy old nerd. I don't care about how him or his shitty magazine came to be.

is BET producing this thing along with Grazer? Is Sidney Poitier going to play Hugh? I don't get the casting of every famous black actor in Hollywood. Ratner blows.

I liked Red Dragon, kinda liked Family Man, kinda kinda liked the 1st Rush Hour. I don't think he is a waste. He just isn't all that good. I have no interest in this film concept though. I don't care if Kubrick came back to life to direct it(well... Maybe that COULD interest me).

lol, no that part of the article i think they were talking about the hiest film that was on the backburner for Ratner. With Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock attached. Dave Chapelle maybe.

But the Hugh Hefner flick might be alright, I'll wait for casting and stuff.

Ocean's 11.... a black comedy

Is it just me or are they trying to essemble a cast to rival the Ocean's 11 movies?? It's even supposed to be a "heist" movie, so I think I might be onto something here! Throw in Morgan Freeman, Laurence Fishbourne, and Samuel L Jackson + one token white guy (Vin Diesel?) -- and there you have it!

I'm imagining it's simply going to be pairs of breasts fading into each other like a screen saver slideshow with a streaming line of text underneath it.
