Ryan Gosling Signs On to Peter Jackson's "Lovely Bones"
The 27-year-old actor will be playing the husband to 36-year-old Rachel Weisz. They'll be playing the parents of a (dead) 14-year-old girl in the Peter Jackson pic.
Odd math, I know. Then again, Gosling's a damn fine actor so I've no doubt he can pull off "mid-30s" without too much effort. The signing of Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling ("Half Nelson") and Oscar winner Rachel Weisz ("The Constant Gardener") adds some instant class to Jackson's long-time passion project. His adaptation of Alice Sebold's "The Lovely Bones" will begin production in October. The plan is to shoot in Pennsylvania and (of course) New Zealand.
According to Variety, the "story revolves around a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family -- and her killer -- from heaven. Girl must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal." Now I have to decide if I want to read the book before or after I see the movie.

on Jun 28 2007 11:02 AM [b]Miscast[/b] Gosling plays an emotional psychopath/schizophrenic (sp?) well, but I'm less than optimistic that he can pull of an adult who is psychologically normally and becomes emotionally crippled. They should have cast an older actor -- this is like reverse Bond-ism (where D. Craig was supposed to be a 27 year old). (Reply to this) |

on Jul 01 2007 09:43 AM [b]It's great![/b] The book is really a wonderful book to read! I work with kids and so it was hard at some points to read what was happening to this girl and her friends. I think it's always more rewarding to read the book before seeing the movie because you understand the characters and their thoughts and feelings more than when an actor is trying to portray them. You can't act feelings, but with Ryan and Rachel recreating feelings like these I have no doubt this will be an amazing movie! (Reply to this) |
