Who's Ready for Some 3D "Harry Potter"?
by Fred Topel | July 11, 2007
Discuss Article
Previous Harry Potter films have exhibited in Imax theaters, but "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" will be the first to include Imax 3D for some sequences. The film's stars expect this technique to further enhance the film's already intense tone.

"It's going to be fantastic," said Daniel Radcliffe. "It's going to be terrifying. "There's one moment where Ralph [Fiennes] as Voldemort sort of apparates and he comes from the side of the screen, sort of pushes forward and suddenly appears. That's going to scar people. That's going to be hysterical."

Emma Watson was concerned that audiences could not handle a more intense version of the film. "I was about to say, it's scary enough as it is," she said. "In 3D, people will jump. Honestly, people will be jumping out of their seats. There's enough moments as it is."

Radcliffe became obsessed with the eyewear. "Would they have the glasses? I don't know, maybe they give you a visor or something. Or like the guy in Star Trek who had the thing [on his eyes]."

"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" is currently Certified Fresh and at 74 percent on the Tomatometer.

Voldermort has been a truly unscary and altogether uninteresting "menace" so far, so i'm glad to hear that he rapes a few of the young wizards in this new film. I mean, i'm not glad the kids get raped (obviously?!) I'm just glad we will get a sense of how evil he is.I hope he rapes that kid who started out as the 'fat buck-toothed kid' but then lost weight, and is now 'the buck toothed teen'. That kid should have been under contract to STAY FAT. But what are they really supposed to say to him. "so we heard you got a girlfriend! that's nice, must be all that weight you lost. don't sneak her into your trailer! haha..ahhh all that weight...you know, if she *really* loves you.."

i saw it in IMAX and it was definitely a different experience. i loved the film on the big screen, though the 3d part didn't really work that well. The visuals wind up hurting your eyes, and it was just simply too much. Some parts were very cool, the shards of glass flying down, and the added depth was nice, but overall i just enjoyed the film on the big screen.

I went to see H.P. at the Smithsonian IMAX theatre in Chantilly, VA.

It was nearly impossible to locate an IMAX theatre near Baltimore that was showing the movie. At no time was I advised that only the last 20 minutes of the movie was in 3D.

I took a friend and her two kids, promising them a 3D movie. We drove for 1 1/2 hours from Baltimore to Virginia. NONE of the film was in 3D, not even the last 20 minutes!

Harry Potter in 3D what a rip off.

Only the first segment was in 3d and the remaining majority of the film is the neck-wrenching-too-close-to-the-screen IMAX experience.

Such a big production. Waiting in line. Scrambling for a decent seat. Tons of announcements about how vaulable the 3D glasses are and please don't take them with you when you leave or the theft prevention devices will sound. In the event of a fire, please do not take your 3D glasses with you. Blah Blah. After the first scene, these blinking red remove-your-glasses warning on the screen. I figured that there would be at least a couple more 3D episodes like the quidditch (sp) match or something, but nothing.

Save your money. Go sit in the first row at a regular theater.
