But wouldn't it be kind of a step down for Stephen Chow to be playing a 'sidekick'? The guy's written, directed and starred in scores of movies (including Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle), so would Stephen Chow be interested in going to sidekick route?
Then again, we're assuming that Seth Rogen is sticking to the 'old school' Green Hornet sidekick. And that's probably not going to be the case. Either way, the L.A. Times says Rogen wants Chow on board. I'm still trying to wrap my brain around Seth Rogen as The Green Hornet. But the guy's really darn funny, so he's getting the benefit of the doubt so far.

on Jul 24 2007 10:57 AM no idea who green hornet is(sorry, not a comic book nerd) but if fat n' fuzzy seth rogan plays any kind of superhero...it could be hilarious. the problem with him is...he reminds me of will ferrell(curly hair and fatness is just ironic!) because his best stuff is when he's not really the guy doing the legwork. he's more of a support kind of guy. the best parts of Knocked Up were with his friends in the movie, same with Undeclared, Freaks n Geeks and anything else he's been in. i just don't see him holding an ENTIRE movie up by himself nless there's 3 or 4 other actors that could take some of the load off. if assembled right...and made into a funny kind of movie and NOT a serious thing...it could be good (Reply to this) |

on Jul 24 2007 01:55 PM In reply to this comment (#968737) Your ignorance is both amusing and sad. I've never read a green hornet comic either, but anyone with enough pop culture cred to get onto RT should know the Green Hornet was the second rate campy answer to the already camptastic 60's Adam West Batman. Most notable for being where Bruce Lee as sidekick Kato was introduced to the world. As to this story if they remain true to the 60's show Kato the sidekick was really the star. It was that old Spock syndrome where the unique second banana actually starts to outshine the cookie cutter star. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 24 2007 02:16 PM It's about time we had a comic book movie that actually remembers it's a comic, and not Tolstoy. I think this sounds like a great pairing for a fun movie (Reply to this) |

on Jul 24 2007 03:51 PM Originally, Green Hornet was an old 30's and 40's pulp comic book. The was a radio program in the 40's and early 50's. Green Hornet's following and popularity was sort of second tier, because it had too much competition from the Shadow and Batman. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 25 2007 05:45 AM i'm SAD for not knowing a nerdy 2ss comic book character?? jesus...i pay attention to movies, not comics. when it BECOMES a movie...i'll probably see it. i'm 26 so...the 60's?? sorry grandpa, there's some things i liked back then and some things i can't watch cuz its just TOO corny. if it had nothin' to do with Hitchcock or Jimmy Stewart of one of my fav old actors...i probably have no desire to watch it. but thanks for saying i'm sad, i didn't know i needed to take a class in Nerdery 101 to have the CRED to log on... anyway, i hope they make it a comedy because it could work really well. there are just some comics characters that CAN'T work if its trying to be serious, and Rogan is no Bale (Reply to this) |

on Jul 25 2007 07:27 AM In reply to this comment (#971474) Jesus man, you are massively pop culturally impaired for a 26 year old. the "Your ignorance is both amusing and sad" is of course a self-deprecating comic book guy reference. I'm only 4 years older than you man, but where I grew up the Green Hornet was on everyday after school in syndication and most Saturday mornings right after the aforementioned 60's Batman. What I said wasn't anymore insulting than mass grouping anyone who might know the character into "Comic Book Nerds". The difference is most of us nerds with all our quirks are well-adjusted human beings and have mastered taking harmless barbs with a grain of salt or even being proud of such monikers. You on the other hand seem to always be angry or negative. What's up with that? You're 26, in the prime of life you should be happier than a pig in slop. I do however agree that this will work much better as a comedy and think that is definately where this project is heading judging by the inclusion of Rogen and Chow and the projects previous affiliation with Kevin Smith. on Jul 25 2007 08:05 AM i'm never really angry, just comes off like that. just kinda negative when it comes to comic book nerds thinking they're the sh3t because they know useless info. and i swear to god, i've never HEARD of that tv show that came on when i was "growin up". i spent time playing sports...going outside, being an ACTIVE kid. so what YOU think is culturally impaired is what i think is nerdy. its ONE guy bra...and for what i know about everything else thats more important(women, (Reply to this) |

on Jul 25 2007 09:31 AM In reply to this comment (#971632) 4.0 GPA and lettered in Wrestling, Baseball and Football. Also grew up on a farm where hunting, fishing and working like a mule for no money was the order of the day, have been to 23 different countries and have friends in most of them so I'm not spending 20 hours out of my day polishing my pocket protector or retaping my glasses either...I'm a very well rounded comic book nerd :). I agree with you about "nerd arrogance", but just as annoying is the belief that spending time at sports and being "active" somehow makes you superior to people who fit the nerd profile. Not better, not worse just different and I hate to break it to you, but movie nerds are just comic books nerds lazy cousin. Additionally as a huge sports buff myself most conversations about sports are identical to conversations about comic books only substituting the internet/comics shop for a bar/your friend Jimmy's front curb and Jessica Alba's *** for Derek Jeters fielding percentage...or maybe his *** depending on what kinda bar you hang out in, but I digress. on Jul 25 2007 09:55 AM you grew up on a farm...i think that speaks for itself concerning the letters and gpa. i understand what you're saying..jock=nerd but c'mon, really? how many people want to be somebody like...Peyton manning as to...say, stephen hawking. true, we're all "equal" but then 'gain...we're not. by the way, don't go lame and say "nobody wants to be him cuz he's crippled"...i'm simply saying him because he's pretty much assumed to be the smartest guy on the planet YET, millions don't say i wanna be as accomplished as stephen. they should...but they don't... lastly...bragging about all the things you're reportedly done sounds a bit hypocritical because its justifying that you're better than somebody else...who hasn't done that. goes against the "nobody's better than anybody else" comment. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 25 2007 01:51 PM Yes, because everyone who grows up on a farm is to be looked down upon despite the fact that we'd all starve if people didn't do that. I've actually met Stephen Hawking and while I've never met Peyton Manning I have met some professional athletes and I gotta tell ya wheelchair and all it'd be a tough choice. Yeah Winning a Superbowl is great and all, but there are several obvious negatives to that 1. Odds are theres a good chance you're going to coast thru school on your athletic abilities and have a 7th grade reading level for the rest of your life (I know there are exceptions, but on the whole a large number of pro athletes are dumb), with the greater level of fame comes a greater lack of privacy (As you say screaming girls don't mob Stephen Hawking or Nobel prize winners although I'm sure there are plenty of easily influenced college girls who're more than happy to stay after class for Dr. Jones), Injuries (Jerome Bettis, Mickey Mantle, Bobby Orr by the time they reach or were in their 50's they're barely spending a single day without pain), stamina (Sure Peyton Manning is famous and if you're really lucky you can stretch that fame for ~20 years minus the inevitable downslide at the end of your career. Stephen Hawking is going to be brilliant until the day he dies or senility kicks in much later in life) Wasn't saying I did those things in order to say I was better than anyone else although in some cases I'm proud of my accomplishments. I was just stating them because for the most part a lot can be discerned from someones background and experiences. Like it or not many of us do conform to any number of stereotypes and I was also stating it because I thought you were operating under the mistaken stereotype that because I knew who the Green Hornet is I was some pasty scrawny guy who operates his internet activities from his Mom's basement or Command Center as Kevin Smith called it in Die Hard 4.
