Reading this article, there's something that really bothers me. It's not that the idea of the film itself is incredibly stupid, I've come to terms with the fact that Hollywood only makes movies based on stupid things.

"They get loose and they just want to get home" This implies that the government KIDNAPPED a dog, a cat, and a rabbit and brought them to a secret lab. Now I'm no top government doctor but one can assume with all the assorted beakers and glowing tubes that the government could just... oh... I don't know, BUY a dog, a cat, and a rabbit from a pet store. Do these animals long to be reunited with the grandfatherly old pet store owner they were so hideously purchased from by government agents wearing fedoras and sinister overcoats?

"Curse you government scientists!! Can't you see I just want to get back to that dimly lit store so children can sneeze on me and I can spends my nights wallowing in my own feces cramped in a cage built for a dog half my size?!? STOP TAPPING ON THE GLASS!!!!"

Yeah, we've seen that, it was called Rottweiler and it sucked as much as your movie's gonna suck.

Here's an thought, instead of mashing together crap from movies we've already seen, how about an original idea? Oh crap, I said original idea, I hope no one from Hollywood reads this or their head might explode!!

If you guys are done with your knee-jerk reactions, I'd like to point out that the books (3-issue limited series, NOT a "graphic novel") this is based on are freakin' brilliant. I just read it recently, and it's one of the best comics to come out in the last decade. The fact that the screenplay was adapted by the original author gives me some hope that this might turn out to be a great movie. Okay, flamers, you can go back to your clueless bitching.

I read this comic a while ago. Actually, I made everyone I know read it. You have a dog, a cat and a rabbit. And they all kick incredible ***. With Frank Quietly's beautiful art to tell the story, it's incredibly moving, as well as dark. It's gritty and beautiful.

There's even a bittersweet ending. I've read and reread this comic several times. Pick it up and make your own judgement.

I as well have read the comics this idea is based on and I agree they are freaking fantastic! It helped that for being cute and cuddily little cyborg animals they also kicked *** in the most violent ways possible. I don't know how a film would work but if the same guy is adapting then there is hope. If they can do the whole "in" think and take cues directly from the book then that would be pretty sweet, some of the visuals in this thing are incredible.
In particular I'm thinking of the firstish mission the three go on and the 87 bullets flying through one badie and off the page at the reader. I hadn't read comics in a while and that kind of blew me away.

It is apparent from these comments that you haven't read the comic books, and are making judgements based on something you've never seen based on one paragraph. I know it sounds stupid, but it's a good comic and can become a great movie in the right hands.

Pulgasari, welcome to rottentomatoes. a site where anyone who forms an opinion based on one sentence to a full paragraph will spout off how their opinion is more correct than anyone elses. sad that there was so much hate for a project that the posters at the top knew nothing about but then again, thats usually the case. I hope morrison stays close to this project and hope they dont rush it for completion before the possible strike.

I have a feeling that impending strike is going to ruin alot of movies thanks to hack rush jobs.

As another reader of the 3 part series We3, I have to agree that I'm cautiously optimistic on a movie version. The story is violent, exciting, and quite rewarding. For anyone who has never read the story I can see your point on how outlandish the concept may seem. But believe me that if done right it'll be an incredible movie that will resonate with the audience.

Ok, I'll try to play devil's advocate here... I read We3 a while back, and I agree w/ the general consensus here: it was a great story, truly unique. But what makes you think this would make a great movie? It would be over in a half hour. The animals escape, and the government sends more after them. And from what I remember, 80% of the story would be from the animals' point of view, w/ any dialogue limited to animal noises and animals trying their best at english. Also, how well do you think this would sell? Imagine, one night, the commercial for the film airs, and 99.9% of the populace are thinking "wtf was that, and wtf were they smoking." Of course the fans of the book would probably go see it (the few thousand that exist), but I can't see a whole lot of people willingly paying $9 to see this.

Just because it was a great comic doesn't mean it would make a great movie. That's why we're getting so many crap movies based on comics, the movie executives don't get it. It's one of the things that makes the comic medium so unique: you can have an idea like "assassin animals w/ weapons attached to them," and through the art and writing, you can get a great, critically acclaimed story.

All right all right all right. I'm not trying to trash the source material, indeed We 3 could be a brilliant little comic book. I'm not going to pretend I've read it because I'd just look like an even bigger *******. But just because the source material is great doesn't mean it can be translated in to a good movie. Look at Dune; the book is genius, one of the best sci-fi novels ever, every attempt to make it in to a movie has turned in to a complete disaster.
The list could go on endlessly of good sources that have been turned in to Hollywood ****. As for "doing it right" they very well could, but the way the guy pitches it makes him sound like a complete ****ing moron.
So yeah, I am basing my opinion on a few paragraphs, but then you're basing your opinion of me on a few paragraphs as well. Cry me a ****ing river.
