Southland Tales Stills, Trailer Info
Who says there's no originality left in Hollywood?

It's got what might be the largest cast and most difficult-to-describe storyline of any major motion picture this year, so of course, Richard Kelly's Southland Tales is being observed closely by many film lovers as it gets closer to its November release date. FirstShowing has been down in the trenches all along, and is now offering some new details about Southland's trailer -- and a pile of stills from the movie.

First, some background on Southland Tales, for anyone who hasn't been following along. The film's synopsis describes it like so:

Director Richard Kelly follows up cult favorite DONNIE DARKO with this sprawling epic about a futuristic version of Los Angeles that harnesses the power of the ocean to produce energy. The eclectic cast includes The Rock, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Justin Timberlake, Mandy Moore, and Janeane Garofalo.

Sounds a little strange -- and it doesn't even get into the appearances of Seann William Scott as twin brothers, Wallace Shawn as a villain named Baron Von Westphalen, a blond Jon Lovitz, and Kevin Smith as a legless vet. Oh, and a musical performance by Timberlake.

Clearly, this is one of 2007's must-see films, and if you're one of the people who have been anxiously awaiting the trailer, FirstShowing has good news -- according to Richard Kelly himself, it will be surfacing on television and the Web during the first week of September. That's just around the corner (check your calendars if you don't believe us), but if you're the impatient type, and are willing to settle for photos, follow the link below for a gander at some shots from the movie.

By the cast alone this movie sounds awsome! well... excepet for Mandy Moore and The Rock. I have a hard time tolerating one Sean Williams Scott, now he is twins? Everyone else rocks though. Woot kevin smith!

Yikes...I have to disagree with the casting. Janeane Garafolo is the only person on this cast that I like, and I find she doesn't usually work in movies. Jon Lovitz is cool too, but the same goes for him as with Garafolo.

A lot of familiar names in the cast, but not a good actor among them. Still, you never know, it could work.

This movie has been put off for a couple of years, hasn't it? I mean, it was made a while ago, but I kept hearing horrible things about it, like when there would be reports from the different festivals and stuff. Apparently it was too long and just not very good, so they've been re-tooling it and re-tooling it, and that's usually not a good sign.

If it was such a must-see film, it would have been the must-see film of LAST year.

It's a real must-see. Of Wicker Man proportions.

I thought this thing had been permanently shelved. I heard nothing good about it when it played at Cannes, but then again Oh Brother Where Art Thou? BOMBED at Cannes so those snooty frogs have missed the boat before. I for one like The Rock quite a bit. I HATE wrestling, and yes, he has made a few terrible movies, but The Rundown is awesome and he was the only good thing in Be Cool - that movie sucked badly, but it got 100% awesome anytime The Rock was on-screen.

I guess that at this point, they're pretty much putting it out there to die, as it lands a week or so before the big holiday movies start to hit. If the word of mouth coming out of all the festivals and stuff would have been less than poisonous, than it'd be positioned well, but I really doubt at this point that the studio has that sort of confidence in the thing. I too like Rock as an actor for what he's been in so far, so if this can further his career at all in terms of the right people wanting to hire him for more films based on his performance here, then that's great, but again, I don't have very high hopes for the film itself.

I remember it took a while for Donnie Darko to be released. People were not so enthused about Patrick Swayze being in there. Of course it could have been retouched since 2006. I am very excited about it.

I love the ending of this movie!!! overall a good movie, but a little to long, and some scenes could have been taken out. i did get a little lost during the middle but the ending ties it all together.
