Kevin McKidd Responds to Thor Rumors
Teen angst in Asgard?
Not content to merely work the rumor mill regarding Kevin McKidd's rumored consideration for the lead role in Thor, IGN Movies up and asked the actor himself if the rumors were true.
As it turns out, McKidd -- who was participating in a conference call promoting NBC's Journeyman -- heard the rumors too, so he did the smart thing, and asked his agent if they were true. The response? "Yeah, we're talking to them."
But don't go picturing McKidd wielding Mjolnir just yet. He told reporters that the studio is looking for a younger actor -- "a 19 or 20 year old" -- to handle the role, but there are no hard feelings:
McKidd went on to explain that he may still be involved in the project, as there was another older role for which he is under consideration. McKidd, a self-professed fan of science fiction "since I was a child," said he'd definitely consider the project. "It could be fun, but it all depends on what's on the page."
Obviously, until a final casting announcement is made, this is all just speculation -- but at the moment, it appears as if Matthew Vaughn's vision for the God of Thunder will skew decidedly younger than fans might have expected (or probably hoped for).

on Sep 07 2007 08:03 AM In reply to this comment (#1103856) Anyone who saw ROME can picture Kevin McKidd as Thor. It's a great choice as it is to pick McKidd's ROME castmate Ray Stevenson as the new Punisher. It's just too bad that neither of these characters are very compelling as solo projects. Vin Diesel is brawny but his face looks like a truck backed over it - not quite the image of a Norse god. And no way can I imagine Thor with Mark Wahlberg's wussy, breathy voice. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 07 2007 08:19 AM "it appears as if Matthew Vaughn's vision for the God of Thunder will skew decidedly younger than fans might have expected (or probably hoped for)." I don't see how Thor being younger, if that's where they decide to go with it, should really make much of a difference. He's a God and he can APPEAR to be as young or as old as they want, which is great, because the casting opportunities are endless. If what they mean to say is that he's inexperienced, like he's new to the whole God among mortal men thing, that's fine too, and it would probably be more interesting, especially when it comes to juggling the dual identity. That is, again, if they do decide to go with a Donald Blake/Jake Olsen/whoever civilian persona. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Sep 07 2007 10:51 AM I have a hard time imagining a 19 or 20 year old carrying the movie. If true, they had better surround him with plenty of talented actors in supporting roles - such as Vladimir Kulich as Odin or something... :) I'd still rather see Vladimir play Thor though. on Sep 07 2007 11:28 AM They just need to put Kevin McKidd and Ray Stevenson together again in ANYTHING, and it'll work. But a 20 year old Thor? Please. That sounds about as bad as every other comic book movie they're making. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 07 2007 01:27 PM Question, are they going old school thor, or Ultimate Thor? It would be great if the movie was based on the crazy environmentalist thor who may or may not be the actual Norse god. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 07 2007 04:56 PM Perhaps there are 2 actors portraying Thor in the movie. We know it's a Tales from Asgard type of story, but there may also be some Earth visiting in it as well (probably toward end/epilogue). There might be a 19/20 yr old portraying a younger Thor for the beginning (or maybe flashback) portion of the film. An older actor could portray a more mature Earth. Maybe McKidd just didn't want to spoil anything (including his chance of being cast) by revealing this angle. Or McKidd might be portraying another Asgardian (maybe even Loki?). (Reply to this) |

on Sep 07 2007 07:20 PM 1) Younger actor=starving actor who is willing to sign anything and do anything to be in the movies. What it means is that the studio is looking for some one who is willing to become an indenture servant for the thor franchise 2) Thor looks good in comics, but he will look silly in real life. Can u imaging a guy runninning flying around the streets carrying a hammer as weapon. 3) In order to get that comic book physique, normal humans probably have to take a lot of steroids or else they will appear too skinny on screen. Due to such reason, a WWF wrestler is the perfect choice because all he has to do is just be himself for the movies. 4) Against another comic hero movie because hollywood is making too many of them and they get kind repetitive after a while. Sorry about my grammar because hearing another wwf dude tring to make it in hollywood just gives me nighmares. Personally, i just do not remember any wwf dude has ever made a decent movie. Most of the roles they play in the movies have a very parallel likeness to their wwf counter parts. (Reply to this) |
