Get Ready for Harry Potter and the Simultaneous IMAX Release
Giant teen wizards! In 3-D!

Live near an IMAX theater? Prepare to enjoy a year of gloating to your not-as-fortunate fellow filmgoers.

The IMAX Corporation -- which had already announced supersize runs for Martin Scorsese's Shine a Light, the Wachowski brothers' Speed Racer, the Jack Black-starring DreamWorks 'toon Kung Fu Panda, and, of course, The Dark Knight -- let slip on Friday that they're all set to give Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince a simultaneous IMAX release when it bows November 21. Oh, and wait -- Richard L. Gelfond, IMAX Co-Chairman and Co-CEO, has more news:

Our release of 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' is scheduled for November, and we expect that as with 'Harry Potter 5,' certain sections of the film such as the finale will be presented in IMAX 3D. We are currently working on adding another film for release in September or October and look forward to announcing this addition to our 2008 slate.

Yep, IMAX isn't even done for the year yet -- sometime between July 18 and November 21, they want to bring another release to their big, big screens. What's it going to be, folks? Make your guesses now!

I'm sure this is great news for people that live near IMAX and Harry Potter fans. I won't post something stupid like, "Harry Potter sucks" because I read the first book in junior high and thought it was okay, but did not get into it enough to read any of the others and never saw any of the movies, so I'm going to say that this isn't that big of news for me. Also I don't live near IMAX which does suck, only thing I've ever seen in IMAX is a michael jordan video. So for all those that like Harry Potter and live near IMAX throw yourself a party.

Wheren't at least the last couple also in IMAX? I know for a fact we saw Goblet of Fire in IMAX day of release... and only didn't see "Order of the Phoenix" in IMAX because the IMAX place is an hour away and we had a new baby, so my wife and I have to take turns seeing movies.

It is rather an exciting thought isn't it? Well if all Imax's are like Bradford's in Yorkshire then the experience can be spoilt thanks to the ridiculously uncomfortable chairs and narrow isles that have little room for legs. The chairs, believe me, are NOT made for films longer then an hour. I saw the last Harry Potter at the Imax and my backside (no its not big) hasn't recovered from the experience. Ok for kids but adults take a cusion with you. Not sure what you can do about the leg space though. Should have gone to a normal cinema. Not only are the seats alot more comfortable but the tickets are two pounds cheaper.

I'd recommend giving later books a shot. You were unfortunate enough to seem to have missed all phases of the Harry Potter target audience. You weren't little when the first books came out, you haven't yet wanted to recapture that spirit of youth as an adult. The only hope you have to catch the phenomenon is an appreciation for good literature which make no mistake the later books deliver in spades. I honestly have never found a more satisfying ending to a series in my life and that was with all the hype going in.

I think it depends on the imax you go to. Some are the luxury class Imax. They spoil you. and make you a wee but dizzy. Or very dizzy depending on how motion sick you get. No cloverfield in IMAX. People would be sick everywhere.

I have an Imax pretty close to my house, but I never thought it was that special. Iv only seen Rob Zombie's Halloween in it, and I wasn't very impressed. I did hear that Toby McGuires double chin in spiderman 3 was very increadible in the Imax theater, though.

Very stoked for HBP!

Yeah I agree with Bigbrother, the HP novels are some of the greatest books of all time. They do start off a little slow, but it really kicks off after Azkaban. Deathly Hallows is amazing. And thats going to be one good movie (if they do it right)!

i watch OOTP in imax and thought it looked great and the fact that the seats were made so no one tall blocks your view was great. but i hated the fact that the ending was in 3d. i didn't need that.

the problem with films that were made for a standard cinema but are being eleased on i max aswell is that they dont look as amazing as a short film that was designed for imax

Isn't it typically WB films that are in IMAX? The only exception seems to be Kung Fu Panda on that list so whatever WB project is coming out in the slot they need will probably get it.

jeez donwillymo, get a grip. just because you might not like the movies/books is no reason to wish someone harm up to, and including, death. someone (you), needs to take a chill pill.

Ur right Majaguy...I've just been so bitter since the 10,000 B.C. reviews...and Doomsday at that. Both are on my top 10 list of 2008!

So what if Daniel Radcliffe is openly gay and still believes in the tooth fairy...today's society teaches us to accept everybody! I was wrong this whole time! I'm going to rent every Harry Potter movie and watch them consecutively Clockwork Orange style.
