Ridley Scott to Direct Gucci Pic
Catwalks, guns and money.
by Jeff Giles | December 04, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Ridley Scott is one busy director.

Less than a month after word surfaced that he would be following up Body of Lies and Nottingham with a supernatural thriller called Stones, Variety reports that Scott has signed on to direct Fox 2000's planned Gucci family biopic. Charles Randolph is lined up to write the script, which will focus on the Gucci brand's rise during the '70s and '80s. From the article:

The catalyst will be Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of founder Guccio Gucci who emerged as the unlikely winner of a bloody power struggle to run the family business. Just when Maurizio was on the verge of his greatest success -- a daring fashion show debuting the clothes of newcomer Tom Ford -- his penchant for accumulating enemies caught up with him; Maurizio was gunned down in front of his Milan apartment in 1995.

Scott is currently in Morocco, filming Body of Lies with Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe; from there, he'll continue on with Crowe, who is also attached to Nottingham. Who knows? Maybe Crowe will star in the Gucci movie, too.

The Gucci family history would actually make for a fairly interesting film imo. Wikied them recently and there's a lot of substance to run off of...

And dear god Russell better not be attached to it or I'll punch Ridley in the teeth.

I really wish someone could convince Scott to do another Sci-Fi film.

Or another historical epic. Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut were amazing.

I'm looking forward to Body of Lies. He might be the first director that does a good job making a movie about Iraq/terrorism. Should be a good script, an obviously great cast, and this is the guy who gave us Black Hawk Down.

A Good Year was his worst film. It was a boring, self-glorifying turd.

Well looking at my Gucci it's about that time for Scott to make a pointless movie, in which women will go see and be disappointed b/c there will be violence and men will be dissappointed b/c there will be violence over fashion. Two models fighting on the runway maybe?

I don't know anything about Gucci, so this sounded horrible from the title, but with the guy getting gunned down and a good cast, Scott could make this alright.

Yeah but will it be a real Gucci or just a knockoff?
